Prince Yi's Trap

Yu Feng kept stood up and held on to her brother tightly. Her gaze was watching the men in a black robe with wary. One glance at them told her that those men were very proficient in martial art. It would not be a problem for them if they wanted to kill her right there and then. No one would care if she suddenly disappeared.

"What do you want to do?" Yu Feng asked.

"Don't be anxious," Qin Zhi Hao said. "I promise I would not do anything to hurt you."

Yu Feng narrowed her eyes dangerously. "You promised you would let me go, but you still kept me here. Gentleman, your promises were nothing but words."

The men in black turned to her with a murderous gaze. They were angry that someone had spoken something unpleasant about their master. However, without their master's order, those men dared not do anything to her.

Qin Zhi Hao let out a chuckle. "You are right."

He was aware that he had gone back against his promise and deserved to be scolded. It was not something that he enjoyed doing, but Qin Zhi Hao thought, he was desperate.

"But do you not want to know why I kept on insisting for you to work for me as a runner?"

"Not interested."

Qin Zhi Hao was taken aback by the answer. "Why not?"

"Curiosity killed the cats," Yu Feng said. "I am merely a street thief. Knowing too much about what you noblemen do would only get me killed quickly." She shrugged. "Why bother."

A carefree laugh escaped him.

Though he still needed to be wary against this boy, Qin Zhi Hao thought that this boy was indeed interesting. For someone who grew on the street, Xiao Feng can be smart and it was that sharpness that made him feel that he needed to be on guard against him.

At this time, Qin Zhi Hao was conflicted between trusting that Xiao Feng was a mere street thief or someone that his enemy had sent to approach him.

Qin Zhi Hao clenched and unclenched his fist a few times as he re-think his decision again.

After a while, he glanced at his men and spoke, "Xiao Feng, on the day of the lantern festival, you will be working with these men. Remember them well. You are not to trust anyone else other than them."

Yu Feng glanced at those men and stared at them one by one. There were four of them and she tried her best to remember them.

With Qin Zhi Hao order, the men in black started to introduce themselves.

"You have followed Officer Zhou to the bureau a few days ago and should know the job of a runner," Qin Zhi Hao spoke. "It is not that I did not want to keep my promise, but at this time, you are the best person available to help me."

In the end, Qin Zhi Hao decided to listen to his instinct and put his trust in this teenage boy.

"A few months ago, His Majesty received a tip-off," Qin Zhi Hao began. "On the day of the lantern festival, there will be an assassination attempt on him."

Yu Feng stared at the man with her eyes wide and his mouth gaped open. "You are joking with me, right?"

She stared at the man's face and saw that there was not much change in his expression.

This man was not joking!

"This is His Majesty, the Emperor, you're talking about. How can you say mention His Majesty's assassination attempt so casually?" Yu Feng held on to Orange tightly and panicked. "If others heard your word, we will all be dead."

Qin Zhi Hao chuckled upon seeing the boy's anxious expression. "Scared?"

"Of course I am! It's fine if you want to die quick, but I valued my life and did not want to die this young!"

There were a lot of things she wanted to do and places she wanted to go to.

"What if I tell you that you can help me to prevent an accident from happening?"

"What?" Yu Feng blinked her eyes a few times as if afraid that she had misheard things.

Her mind whirled as she tried to figure out the meaning of the man's words.

It does not take her a long time to try to connect a few dots. She had seen him working with Officer Zhou and saw the way he was commandeering the soldiers. With the way he conducted himself and the air around him, Yu Feng immediately guessed that the person in front of her as someone with high authority. He should be someone who worked for His Majesty.

"To tell you the truth, I am trying to find the person who wanted to harm His Majesty," Qin Zhi Hao said.

"What does it have anything to do with me? Mister, look here. I am merely a street thief. What can I do to help you?"

"You can run."

The frown on her face deepened.

"You can help me deliver news on time and prevent something bad from happening."

"But why me?" Yu Feng glanced at the men around them. "Your men seemed pretty capable in martial arts. Surely they could run and deliver your messages on time."

"They can't. Whoever was behind this assassination attempt seemed to know the people who were working under me. I'm afraid that if I send them, my messages will only get intercepted," Qin Zhi Hao spoke. "The lantern festival will be held in a few days. I need a fresh face to act as a runner and I don't have time to train recruits. Xiao Feng, you are the best candidate."

Qin Zhi Hao decided to tell her the reason he needed her to work for him and did not mention anything regarding the array outside the tower or mentioned that a few of his men had lost their life.

They have suspected that there was a mole among his soldiers and at this time, Qin Zhi Hao could only trust a few men including his hidden guards. They did not know what did their enemy knew about his team and how much they know about anything. A fresh face was the only choice he could take to throw his enemy off their guard.

Yu Feng was flabbergasted upon hearing the man's words. She wanted to say something but found that she was too speechless.

Whenever she thought of His Majesty, her body shivered. She had never thought that she would be involved in something this big.

Even if she wanted nothing to do with this matter, this bad man would not take no for an answer. Since he dared to mention some confidential matters to her, Yu Feng was scared that if she did not cooperate, this man would not hesitate to kill her. She was already someone who knew too much.

This bad man did all these to trap her!

"To deliver messages and prevent such a thing from happening is a very important task." Yu Feng paused and swallowed. "Are you sure you are willing to trust me with this?"
