Chapter - 19

The room was dim. There was a chill in the air, I could smell a fresh breeze filled with the smell of salt on the air, the sun began to break through my window illuminating the room letting bright light shine on all the things within. I felt warmth as the sun hit my skin as I laid in my bed still unable to properly move. For 2 days I had been like that. Laying on my back not moving much having to be taken care of like a newborn baby. I hated it. Slowly I had felt my strength return though but I knew it would be a while before I could fight again for now I had to focus on trying to gather enough strength to look after myself. I woke up earlier than usual and found myself alone for the first time in a while. Asta had been looking after me for the few days I had been incapacitated in bed. I still felt a horrid pain in my heart when I think of what I had done to her. Asta and I had not talked very much since. I had a million things I wanted to say to her but the words never fell in line and never left my mind. I decided that I would try to stand on my own today. I began to sit up and felt pain rush through my body as I began to move, the pain was almost normal to me now, I pushed through the pain moving slowly. I began to grunt as my back began to straighten out as I sat up for the first time in days on my own. I looked around at the room that had felt like a prison for the past few days. There were bandages strewn on the tables and sponges and medicinal herbs all over. It was a mess. I attempted to turn my body so my legs could touch the floor. As I began to move it felt slightly easier than sitting up and my body reluctantly moved as my feet emerged from my covers and fell to the floor. My bones creaked and popped as I stretched my legs out and it felt almost relaxing as I let my legs relax for a while.

I looked down at my battered body and saw that there were still bandages bound tightly around my body. There was blood staining them still. I traced the bandages with my fingers trying to feel the wounds beneath and I felt a large rise tracing down my chest. I could only imagine how badly I had really gotten hurt. Sun began to fall onto my chest and face and I felt the warmth make me relaxed slightly, making me ignore my wounds for a moment, I decided that I have been sitting for long enough.

I took a deep breath and started putting more weight onto my feet and began to lean forward slightly. I felt a sharp pain race through my torso and I let out a groan through my teeth. I wanted to give up but I knew that if I did I wouldn't be able to go find Asta and set things right. And even more so I needed to find my father. I braced myself on the bed and pushed forward. I hopped up onto my feet with my knees slightly crouched to better balance myself. I felt blood begin to well up on my chest once more as I felt pain run through me once more. I took a deep breath and bit down hard focusing on keeping myself up and not on the wound that had made me shrivel up in bed. I took a deep breath and clutched my chest with my right arm and used my left to stabilize myself on the wall. I paused for a moment and then began to move my feet. One after the other. I lifted my foot off the ground and placed it in front of my other. As my foot hit the ground I felt another dart of pain race through me but I had come this far already and couldn't let it stop me now. I pushed through and focused on getting my footing right as I began to head for the window. One foot in front of the other I had kept on saying in my mind willing myself to keep going. It felt like an eternity but I had finally made it to the window. I felt a gust of wind blow into my face filling my lungs with fresh sea air and I felt bliss for a moment. I took a deep breath allowing the air to fill my lings and it had revitalized me greatly.

I felt tears begin to fall from my eyes. I had looked out that window and saw the sea. In all its glory the sea had been a deep shade of blue and looked almost like a dream. I saw trees. Green leaves filled the hills around the beaches and birds flew in the skies racing off to and from the canopy. I saw people working to rebuild a burnt down house in the distance. People. I saw life for the first time in what felt like years. I was happy.

I then heard a loud thud from behind me and as I turned around I saw her. Asta stood in the doorway with her mouth open looking at me in disbelief. She looked at me and began to cry...
