Chapter 15 Indifference

Azreal takes us down a dark corridor and we come across a metal door. It opened on its own and we stepped into a room.

There were dozen of Zakerians in one place and they simply looked at us, stopping whatever they were doing. I nearly fainted in shock.

Everyone suddenly took their weapons and guns out and pointed them at us.

There was a pin-drop silence

"Azreal?" I whisper hiding behind him. All guns were pointed at him and he didn't look phased at all.

A Zakerian female stepped up in front of us. The Armor around her body hugged her curves and even though she was an alien she would've been deemed attractive even by our human standards.

"You infiltrated our ship so soon. I'm assuming you've already destroyed the fleets we sent your way." She spoke.

She spoke in an alien language, but to my surprise, I could understand her. My eyes widened. How is it possible? I felt like I knew that language as if it had been written into my DNA.

From the way she carried herself, she seemed like she was someone important.

"Commander Zelda," Azreal speaks for the first time. His voice is quiet but there is something about it that commands even more attention towards him.

She was a commander? That made more sense. There was a frightening aura around her.

"You sacrificed a good number of your people to get my attention. Now that you have it, tell me why I shouldn't kill all of you where you stand."

Azreal speaks, his voice void of any emotion.

Once again he spoke in a different language but I could still understand it. I blinked slowly not comprehending the weirdness of it all.

The temperature in the room drops at his words. I didn't want to see another blood bath. I barely recovered from the last one. There was so much tension in the air that it was suffocating.

"Stand down," Zelda commands suddenly and everyone lowers their weapons reluctantly.

The armor around her head disappears revealing her face completely. She had dark hair in braids and icy blue eyes. She didn't have Azreals Silver strands. I assumed that the silver hair color was a signature of the Zakerian people but I was wrong. Maybe it was unique to Azreal.

"My deepest apologies your highness. We sent a letter requesting a parley. Since there was no response-"

"You decided you could gain my audience by attacking me?" Azreal cuts her off, his voice sounded cold and deadly.

Wait. Your highness? Oh God he was someone really important wasn't he? I have the worst luck in the world to get caught up in all this.

Zelda walks towards him. I was surprised at how close she got. She was quite tall for a female. Her head would nearly reach Azreals chin.

She laid a long slender finger on his chest and looked up at him, smiling coyly.

"Well you're here now aren't you?" She says. Her tone was very seductive and I suddenly started to feel uncomfortable.

The grip I had on his cloak tightened in response.

"Everyone Leave!" She commands and all the Zakerians in the room start marching out one by one.

To my dismay, her eyes meet my wide ones. It was like she was noticing me for the first time.

Her eyes narrowed with what seemed like disgust.

"She stays," Azreal mutters.

"You have an interesting taste in pets, your highness," she states, sneering in my direction.

I just wished I could just disappear then and there. Honestly, why am I even here?

Azreal took Zelda's hand in his and clenched it tightly.

Her eyes widened and she looked like she was in pain.

"You have five minutes to make your case before I blow this place up," Azreal growls out.

She wrenched her hand away and took a few steps back.

"The council wants to meet with you. To discuss the terms regarding the war. They want to make a deal."

Azreal didn't seem like he was interested.

"We can negotiate for temporary peace. I'm assuming you're tired of the constant fighting." She speaks but her eyes are on me. Azreal steps up in front of me covering me from her view. Her eyes widened a bit more and I could see curiosity in her gaze.

A horrible feeling started to form in the pit of my stomach.

"Alright. I will grant you this one wish. But do not think for a second that I trust you. Displease me and I will kill you all within seconds."

She tears her eyes away from me and bows her head but just before she did I could make out an almost sinister smile on her lips.

"Of course, your highness. Would you like me to show you to your rooms until we gather our council?" her voice sounded sickeningly sweet.

Azreal grunts in response.

"Shall I organize a separate dwelling for your creature?" She says her eyes mocking me.

Why do they have such a hard time acknowledging me as a person? The hatred I had for them returned tenfold and I glared at her. Vehemently.

She looked taken aback for a second before schooling her expression into indifference.

"That won't be necessary. She stays with me." Honestly, this is the first time I'm relieved to hear those words.

Zelda gives me another sarcastic smile before responding.

"Of course. Follow me."

Azreal follows her.

"Come," he commands me to follow. There was something cold about him and I realized he was acting indifferent towards me as well. He was different. Or maybe he was always like this. I wasn't sure. Perhaps it was because we were in enemy territory.

My heart twisted in a way I didn't understand. I let go of his cloak. Deciding I don't want to touch him anyway. He paused for a second but resumed walking. I followed them reluctantly. My heart hammering in my chest. The thought of escape lingering in my mind like a distant whisper.
