Chapter 15

The next day, Ismene held Lysandra captive in her room for the first few hours of the morning, holding gowns up to her figure in the mirror and snapping at her to stand still every two seconds. Lysandra watched the windowsill for notes from Zephyr, but nothing came. She had started to feel worried. What if something had happened to her? Or what if the wind had blown her notes away when Lysandra wasn't there?

Lysandra had too many questions without answers. She felt more restless than ever, and Ismene's constant reminders to stop moving didn't help. All she wanted was to run away.

As soon as Ismene released her, Lysandra left the Ferry estate and went out into the main streets again. She didn't care whether anyone saw her, but no one protested when she moved through the front door and pushed open the gate. Maybe, she thought, Ismene had finally decided to give up on keeping her confined to her father's house.
