They Should Know

Under the garden's gazebo, Arvid placed Angeal down on the bench then knelt in front of her.

"Are you okay," he asked and the girl just nodded even though it was obvious that she was still shaken from the incident a while ago.

The old man walked briskly to his granddaughter's side then gave her a tight embrace.

"Oh, child... I was so worried about you," he said and when she felt her grandfather's embrace, she became vulnerable and cried silently on his shoulder.

Arvid stood up then sighed. "What had happened," he mumbled to himself then looked at Gwen standing beside him. "Was he always like that," he asked and Gwen shook her head as her answer.

The last time they saw their master like that, was before Gladios and Angeal came.

"Everyone, are you alright," asked Martha as she walked towards them holding a pitcher of water. Beside them was Edwin, holding a tray that contained two glasses.

Arvid shot a look at his father then spoke. "Dad, what happened inside? What happened to the other guy," he asked but Edwin did not answer him and just spoke.

"Let's check on Gladios and Angeal first. This might've frightened them more," he said and Arvid became quiet, looking at Gladios and Angeal seated on the bench.

"Here. You two have some water first," Martha said as she prepared them a glass of water. Gladios gave the glass first to his grandchild before he got his.

It was quiet for a whole three minutes. Angeal's eyes were red and it looked dry from crying too much. This might have given her a real shock of her life! Thankfully she's no longer shaking in fear compared to how she felt a while ago.

Gwen sat beside Angeal then held her hand. "You're okay now. We didn't expect any of this to happen."

Angeal looked at her then nodded her head once and forced out a smile to not make everyone worry.

Arvid scoffed. "Are you kidding me? She was sent flying! I was scared to death," he commented rather loudly then Edwin gave him a smack on the head.

"Are you slacking off from your training!? If I hadn't shouted at you to pay attention, Angeal could've hit her back hard on the wall!"

His son kept quiet when he heard his father's remark and thought that his father was right. A lot of unexpected things could happen and he would really need to do well to be alert.

Martha put the pitcher and tray at the side then spoke, getting everyone's attention.

"I think it is high time for Gladios, Angeal, and Arvid to know who our master is... and I think they should know what had happened a while ago," she said and Gwen and Edwin suddenly kept quiet.

Martha sighed and was silent for a few seconds before talking about their master.

"Devin, our master, is a powerful being. Despite being born from the realm above, he had a peculiar difference from everyone of us," she started then everyone looked at her as they listened.

"We immortal beings from our world are felt and seen as warm and bright beings—as if happiness and luck emanated from our bodies. But to our master... you could feel nothing but—"

"Sadness," Gladios interrupted and Edwin nodded before he spoke.

"That's right. He's like the living embodiment of everything that's depressing," Edwin added then Arvid suddenly spoke.

"But why, though? He's from your world, right? Aren't you like angels if you came from there?"

Everyone looked at him after he spoke. For Martha, Gwen, and especially his father, Edwin, they looked at Arvid as if he said something really stupid.

"You speak like a human, son," Edwin commented and his son scoffed.

"What can I say? I'm an immortal but I never got the chance to visit our realm," he said as he shrugged his shoulders.

Hearing how Edwin and Arvid conversed, made Angeal show her usual bright smile. Everyone noticed her change of attitude, which made everyone relieved to see her feeling okay.

Gladios held his granddaughter's hand tightly and gave her a smile as well, making Angeal look at them then did a lip sync that everyone could understand.

"Thank you."

"Anyway," Edwin spoke again, getting everyone's attention. "That's what made our master different from us. Arvid, Angeal, you saw how his temper is so you do well to be careful with your words and actions," he added then the two nodded at him.

"But... why is he different from the rest of you guys and why is he our master," Arvid asked then Gwen answered this time.

"Despite his difference, he is the son of the most powerful goddess of our realm. The goddess is like our Almighty ever since her father descended the throne. Since master is our goddess' son, we follow him—that's why he is our master."

"Then why are we in the human world to follow him," Arvid asked the most important question and this time, the three kept quiet. After a few seconds, Martha spoke to answer his question.

"He was banished from our realm. Because of what he did, he was punished by his mother."

Arvid furrowed his brows, still confused.

"I still don't get it. What did he do and why did you guys follow him?"

Gwen sighed. "We followed him because he told us to. Somehow, he still needed us with him," she answered and Arvid shook his head.

"You guys are not answering the important question. What did he do?"

Gladios, Angeal, and Arvid looked at the three immortals, who dared not say another word.

So what do you think did Devin do for him to be banished from his realm? Comment down below your thoughts! Thanks so much for reading! :D
