Chapter Twenty Three
"Will you be my girlfriend?"
My heart stops at those five words. The nervousness is evident in his eyes, and it grows the longer I don't answer.
I couldn't believe that he wanted to be with me. I snap to my senses and position myself directly above him. I move my hands on either side of his head and stare down.
"Yes." I breathe out finally before I bend down to capture his lips in mine. He smiles into the kiss and I entwine my hand in his hair pulling lightly.
I was a match and he was the strike I needed to burn.
Ashton breaks from the kiss first and stares deeply into my eyes. His hand is on my cheek and I lean in smiling down at him.
"You're beautiful." He says in a very hushed tone that I almost miss it. I blush for what seems the millionth time since I've moved here and looked away.
"So are you." I whisper looking back.
We share one more kiss before we leave. The sun was fully set now, the moon was the only source of light.

I wake up not happy about having school in the next hour, but last night's events bring a smile to my face.
I hadn't had a boyfriend before, I didn't know how couples were supposed to act.
I step into the shower letting the hot water to calm my nerves. I'm just overthinking this relationship thing. Nothing has to change. We are still the same people, dating or not.
It doesn't take Alex long to grill me when I'm down, off the stairs.
"Word is you've been around Ashton Irwin a lot." I can only imagine what's going through his head.
"What about it?"
"What are you doing with him?" I decide against lying about it and just tell him straight.
"We're dating." I shrug walking away.
"Dating him?" He pulls me back,
"Bad boy Irwin? No way." Was it really that big of a deal?
"Yes way." I slap his hand off me,
"I like him, get over it." I continue on my path as Alex follows hot on my heels spewing questions all the way to the car.
When my locker comes into view, I can see Ashton is there. Alex doesn't try to hide his glare or clear annoyance for the boy as he walks past us.
"What's with him?" Ashton follows Alex's moves.
"I told him we were together." I load my unnecessary books on the top shelf.
"Ah, he won't kill me will he." He tries to be serious, but a smile is evident on his face.
"I hope not. I like having you around." I smile back.
We share a quick kiss, thankfully not many people were around to judge.
"Showing up at my locker now?" I tease after we break from our kiss.
"I couldn't wait to see my beautiful girlfriend." He sends me a cheeky smile.
We walk to my first class in peace, some people were giving us questionable glances but continued on their way.
"See you in an hour." Ashton pulls me to the side of the door. I sneak a quick kiss before letting him go to class.
I prepare myself mentally for the annoyance of Calum before I enter, taking one last glance at Ashton's receding figure. Everything was great.
No matter how much I mentally prepare myself, Calum will always break through and get on my nerves. It seemed like he'd given up since I've been ignoring him this week, but I was wrong.
Since he verbally wasn't getting through to me, he decided to keep poking me to get a rise. It took everything in me not to hurt Isabel's new boy toy.
I was so relieved when the bell went off. I practically ran from the room to get some peace of mind from Calum.
He's been trying to get extra close to me because I was best friends with Isabel. He's also been trying to get me and Michael to communicate better because he has this stupid idea of us all being great friends.
I don't think I could ever get over my hatred for those boys though.
Seeing Ashton brought my mood back up greatly. All it takes is one look from him to erase everything around me and one smile to light up my world.
The rest of my morning runs smoothly considering.
Ashton meets up with me before lunch and I smile graciously at him. I loved that he couldn't get enough of me. I just hope every day is like this from now on.
He takes my hand in his as we walk to the cafeteria and I steer him in the direction of my table.
"Are you two together finally?" Isabel exclaims at our entwined fingers.
"Yes, now quiet down." I hush my loud friend. She rolls her eyes at me but smiles nonetheless.
Calum looks uncomfortable as Ashton glances at everyone. He hasn't said one word since our presence here, it's quite hilarious. All I needed was Ashton to intimidate the boy. Michael however could care less as he scrolls on his phone.
I take a seat and look at Ashton in astonishment when he takes the one next to me. Calum gives an uneasy look at him before turning back to Isabel.
It doesn't take long for Isabel to start poking at Ashton and me. She grills him for being with me and I constantly have to stop her from prying into our relationship. I love the girl to death but she can get too nosey for her own good.
After she's through fighting me off, she forces double dating on us which causes Calum to choke on his drink. I end up laughing at the boy, he looked like a deer caught in headlights.
I know that Ashton came off as a badass at school, but it was only a cover for the big softy he is inside.
Calum's uncertainty towards himself is funny and it probably doesn't help that Ashton keeps playfully glaring at the boy.
"Come on, it'll be fun!" Isabel begs again for the four of us to go out sometime. Michael coughs under his breath and looks around at all of us.
"We haven't forgotten you! You can join when you find someone." Isabel shushes him. I laugh at his obvious offense.
"What makes you think I haven't already?" He stares her down.
"Well, have you really?" Calum buts in. Michael just glares at his friend before returning to his phone. We all share a laugh, Michael also gives a chuckle at his own expense.
Even if I can't stand Calum half the time and have a hatred for Michael, I could get used to this. It was nice to have a group of friends to call your own and I hope Ashton will eventually become a part of that.
