Shanghai Tangren (1)

The atmosphere became relaxed and everyone was chatting, it turned out that, among the three, except for Sun Xiao who had always wanted to make a name for himself in the entertainment circle with acting, Hu Ge and Yuan Hong were converted.

For example Hu Ge originally wanted to become a director but he got involved with acting in his senior year of highschool and realised he had a gift for it, so with encouragement from his teachers he tried out for Shanghai Academy and got in.

Yuan Hong's story was even more exaggerated, he was actually originally headed abroad to study Accounting and Finance, when having taken part in film and drama at school with his friends, one of his friends asked him to apply and accompany him to audition for Shanghai Drama Academy! He passed and made it in but his friend didn't, despite that he hadn't even prepared for the exam at all, he actually managed to make it in, whilst his classmate who had been preparing for so long was brushed aside!

Their meals were served quickly, but there was nothing to drink with them. The other three were okay. But Sun Xiao was a Northerner and insisted they had a couple drinks, so they ordered some but Jiang Cheng bailed out of drinking.

The miserable ending of his previous life left a deep shadow on his heart, so he was trying to cherish his body this time round. Alcohol was only for special occasions and cigarettes were completely off the table.

The group ate happily and made conversation, getting to know each other better.

After eating, Jiang Cheng looked at the time, it was almost half past one. After checking out, the four of them returned to the dormitory and just chilled about watching TV and so.

Till it was about seven in the evening, and it was time to grab dinner.

They had already gone out earlier so they headed to the cafeteria this time round and grabbed some food before heading back to the dormitory to chat and eat.

They were eating and chatting when Hu Ge asked, "Oh, by the way, what companies are you guys thinking of applying to?"

Yuan Hong and Sun Xiao both shook their heads and said that they hadn't thought about it yet.

Jiang Cheng was silent thinking of how to answer when Hu Ge carried on:

"I don't think I'll apply to any of the big companies. Although they have a lot more resources, most of it probably won't be spent on newcomers. So I think I'll choose a medium sized film company, one with a good reputation, they'll have fewer people, but still be able to provide me with opportunities. And once I get ahead and gain some fame it won't be too late to find a large firm to sign with."

Jiang Cheng nodded secretly, Hu Ge was still very savvy. In his previous life, he was picked up by Shanghai Tangren as a newbie and signed a seven-year contract. However, when the contract expired, he actually didn't jump ship but continued to stay with Shanghai Tangren. By then to be fair Shanghai Tangren had grown to become one of the big players in the industry and he had built an attachment to the company that raised him so he decided not to leave.

Yuan Hong asked Hu Ge: "What companies have you applied to?"

Hu Ge replied excited: "Well my dad recommended Shanghai Tangren to me. I think it's not bad. Although it was established late, it's been developing very rapidly over the past two years. Better yet, I've heard their roster is just female actors. Maybe if I join, I can become their first male actor!"

"Shanghai Tangren...hmm this means they're based in Shanghai, right? You lazy bum! You just don't want to leave home, right!" Yuan Hong exclaimed, sending everyone into laughter.

After a bit Sun Xiao turned to Hu Ge and asked: "Wait, so have you contacted Shanghai Tangren?"

"Cough...No..not yet, this is just a plan at the moment."

Yuan Hong scolded, "The way you were speaking I thought you already had an audition lined up but it turns out that you were just fantasizing, what a waste!"

Hu Ge and Yuan Hong began light heartedly quarreling, when Sun Xiao suddenly said to Jiang Cheng: "Oh, Jiang Cheng, have you applied to any companies? You're well known, so you could probably secure a signing!"

Jiang Cheng gave a little lopsided smile and said to Hu Ge, "I'm afraid you're gonna have to give up on your plans to become Shanghai Tangren's first male actor. I signed to them during the Summer Holidays."

"What?!" the three exclaimed.

So Jiang Cheng began and told them the story of how he came to sign with Shanghai Tangren

After he was finished Jiang Cheng turned to the three: "If you guys are actually interested in signing with Shanghai Tangren? I can recommend you to Sister Cai!"

Hearing this, all three were moved.
