Languages that use complex symbols for words aren't that different from languages that use letters. In fact, they're a step simpler. All they need to do is memorize a combination of lines to form a word. Other languages require you to memorize all the letters and then memorize specific letter combinations.

Also, writing a combination of letters is usually going to take longer than writing a single symbol.
