"We need backup, come back right now!" Waller immediately resumed communication and called out to his little buddies, as currently, he was beginning to sweat through his buttcrack.
Two in front of them, and two more coming back, what was he going to do?
"Aurora, yo, it's your booooy, remember me? I need some help here!" Jay continued with his attempt to summon the goddess that was able to help him easily to an innovator earlier.
Waller and his deputy captain decided to use range attacks first to test out Jay's strength as they wait for their reinforcement to arrive. Both of them fired their rifles and coated the bullets with GN particles.
Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit...
Jay sprinted and slid behind a Cadillac. Although the big car could block the enemy vision, it wasn't enough to stop the coated bullets at all.
Running out of time to wait for Aurora's response, Jay knew he had to strike now or his body's gonna be shot into a bee nest. He immediately rolled a smoke grenade he picked up earlier out from under the car, and this military-grade smoke grenade immediately put up a thick smoke screen.
He charged into the smoke and decided to go for the deputy captain, who appeared to be the weaker link of the two of them.
Although higher-level crimson-tier innovators could use their GN particles to scout the area, it does take time to send and retrieve feedback. In comparison, gold-tier innovators or higher could release enough particles in the area around them and connect their neural network to those particles, receiving updates in real time when the particles pick up heat and movement.
Without time to pinpoint Jay's location, Waller and his deputy cap could only back up as they sprayed into the smoke.
Faced with the heavy rain of bullets, Jay surprisingly realized that he could faintly see through the smoke. Not only that, he could see the trajectory of those bullets as if they were moving in slow motion, allowing him to execute evasive maneuvers accordingly.
"Try slashing the bullets with your katana," the familiar female voice sounded again.
Jay was elated to hear that voice again. Raising the blade, he slashed it against a bullet that was coming right at his face.
Ping!
The bullets were slashed in halves, but those halves both still hit Jay's face and left two cuts as they scratched past his cheeks.
"AH, it hurts!"
"Well, I said try, I didn't say you will be fine. But don't worry, I will heal it up for you."
As her voice faded, streams of gold-colored particles started emitting from those two cuts, stopping the bleeding right away and repaired the cut as if nothing ever happened.
Jay charged out of the smoke screen, arriving before the deputy captain of the Nexus squad, catching him with his pants down and left him absolutely no time for counterplay. He stabbed the katana through the target's heart before using the target's body as a jumping board, propelling himself back into the smoke screen.
Waller's eyes were bloodshot. Fight or flee? They already lost two crimson-tier innovators today. On the other hand, if the remainder of them do decide to flee, would they be able to?
Probably. Judging by the movement of this guy, he didn't seem to be very familiar with what he's capable of, or he would've easily been able to counter the GN particle interference he put out to cut communication. Thus, all of this experience could actually be new to this guy.
In addition, they've never seen this guy before, and their organization, Nexus, is barely known to the general public and were only enemies with other innovator organizations. Thus, it was very unlikely that this young boy was trying to kill them for the sake of it. Maybe there was a misunderstanding and they could talk this out?
"Stop right there, let's talk for a second," Waller shouted while he concentrated all of the GN particles he could control into a barrier in front of him, just in case the boy ignored or didn't hear him for some reason and continued to attack.
On the other hand, Jay quickly analyzed his kill on the innovator just now and came to the conclusion that they couldn't see through the smoke as well as he could. Also, he was unconfident whether he could take care of the squad captain without the element of surprise, so he didn't launch another attack right away.
Jay lurked in the smoke and said, "I just want to know where my friend is."
