Black Hat Racker

[Unedited]

"It happened? Again?"

"No hacking this time. Someone was in the record room last night."

I grouched, "What could be the purpose? And how could they get in? None of the CCTVs caught a glimpse?"

"That's the part with an anomaly. None did. Just one of the cameras provided with some, that showed a second of light flashing against a black screen. Nothing else. The only thing perceivable from that is that the person was wearing full black, and they were tall. Around 187 cm like your earlier guy, so they must be the same person, with the same purpose."

"I contacted the school earlier. The gardener was a middle-aged man. None could identify the guy as I gave a description."

"If he could follow you to Seoul Arts and then to V's that classmate's house too that immaculately, that means he has been keeping an eye on you for a while. It's better if you skip field investigations, for now, keep in the building and watch the boys."

I nodded, "Anything new about the hacking episode?"

"Woozi's working on it," Momo said, "He said he will find something out anyhow. The whole situation is so bizarre and all mixed up. First off, the culprit ployed to appear like it was anyone from the authority doing the checks on files. But that trick was revealed in the first glance. Deciphering that part was one small portion of the entire, it's taking sweats to find the IP address, the proxy server they used is a strong one. Maybe some else IP was stolen for the work too."

I said, "But it would still require an insider's help to enter the database records? Only the higher authority has full access to the system."

"I don't think anyone from the higher post has done it. Why would they even? Obviously, when they can just get any info without doing an incognito intervention? Speaking from another side, if you can get one of the employees, especially the agents' IDs, and their passwords, you can get a primary entrance to the records and wedge in without a trace."

"How about-" I fluttered my eyes with the hard thinking, "Well no. That obviously didn't happen. It ain't a piece of cake either. But I mean, if I was a hacker, hacking one of the authorities' IDs would be an easier tunnel through the main job. But this someone, didn't dare to do that."

"Hurr. That would consist of a heck of consequences. If they are an insider, with the probabilities of getting caught in the midway anywhere, he will know the end will mean them a worse charge than hacking a database. Laws are stricter when messed with higher-ups."

"But if they did get that access using an agent ID- all we can do is view our own records, and check a few of others' basic personal info, nothing else."

"That's right. But I think it would still help someone to get in the database for a short time, at least? And once after you get in incognito, you can deliver something like a trojan, which can help you out. I think this is it."

"This accomplice, someone of us-" My fingers played over the table unconsciously, "Someone who is tall, most likely an agent, either knows IT or provided his collected pieces to someone to get the work done for him; not much of a clue." I added, "It's not gonna help enough to find out who it is. How about making a list of all the tall agents in the base?"

"La-mao, the whole nation will have its name in the list," Momo laughed, "Is there something else you can remember about the guy? Anything about his face?"

"No," I replied, "His card dropped when I grabbed him and he pushed me to the ground. That dinner party invitation card."

"Whoever that might be, must have been in the base that morning when the cards were given out. If he is coming to the gathering, we can get him."

"Not with the clues discovered until now. We need to know more."

"Maybe we can." A voice proclaimed from the left doorway. As we looked around, finding the boy with frizzy hair standing back, an assortment of enervation but a glint of contentment archived on his face.

"Have you found out anything?" Momo sprang forward tracing his steps as he walked in. Woozi said, "Got a location of the real IP, had my brain cells as guinea pigs slogging in a crevice for two days but yeah, now it's out."

"Turns out-" He placed a sheet on the table, "It was a cyber cafe."

One second it took, to erase all the freckles of light from our eyeballs to replace with that bored, blank withered slit. "Choi Dong I-Zone, in Hannam-dong district." He added.

Momo made a sullen face, "A cyber cafe? How is it gonna help? Tons of people must go in and out there err day, who of them is our guy?"

"And what kind of professional hacker is that he used a cyber cafe PC to do it?" Sighs came out in frustration from my mouth.

"Wittily professional, because he made you think even if the real IP is found out, it will be of no use in catching him." Momo and I halted.

"I am trying to interpret it from a hacker's perspective. I will get through with all the detail. First off, none outside the department can enter the database so easy. So, yes, the hacker needed at least something to get a primary entrance. Momo delivered me with some of her theories before, and I agree with those. An agent's ID can do it. So yeah, an insider helped him, giving him his ID and password. Then, the hacker developed some trojan files and sent them. I can't track any of the files, probably they were algorithmicized with the last step of self-mutilation." He stopped to take a breath.

"The entire process can't be executed within one day. You have to wait until the right person, here, anyone from the authority, who has the full access to all the files, and the certain file he is rooting for, clicks onto the thing. You would need at least two check-ins. And luckily for us, I found both the times he got in our database, and the IP address was the same. He visited the same cyber cafe, used the same network for both times."

"So..." Momo added, "We can find him?"

"Let's check the CCTV footage and find out the visitors of the two times and extract the common folks. It's not gonna be easy, picking out the right person from the sea of, when it might be, regular visitors. We need a better plan." Woozi replied.

"I've got one."

Both of them looked back at me, questionably. I felt my eyes glinting with a ray of new hope. It was time to get an aromatic cheese piece, to take out the ravenous mouse.

"I need a partner, someone, to go undercover with me in this mission."

"What?" Momo sounded confused, "Out of the blue? Without discussing with the boss, you can't-"

"Ahh, hear me out. I believe-" I smiled, "It's gonna work out."

The chapter was longer but I decided to shorten to retain relevancy. Next ones will be better. If anyone has any kind of confusion dwelling regarding the plot or any certain chapter, do ask it out.
