Prologue

The year 2100, The technological advancements of the World were at its peak but the resources in the World had severely depleted during the past Century and the Countries were at the brink of war to secure resources for their respective Countries.

At such tense times, came in a massive disaster that affected the world on a global scale.

1st April of the Year 2100,

When people were celebrating the April fool's day, fooling and pranking around with their friends and family, nature played an immense prank on them.

At 6:00 PM, UTC+1 time.

The whole World felt immense transient electromagnetic disturbances at a global scale, this lead to the damaging of various electronic devices or had them shut down completely.

Although these disturbances lasted for a few moments, they had almost caused a mass hysteria at a global scale. Many people who were living at the edge of life and death, especially those in the hospitals were pushed to their deaths as the electronic devices malfunctioned and shut down due to those disturbances. When even a moment could mean life and death, a few moments meant inevitable death.

This disturbance crippled many electronic devices from all over the World and many Countries suffered a huge setback. The World would perhaps require many years to get restored back to their former condition. But who knew that this was just the beginning of an unimaginable catastrophe.

At 9:00 PM, UTC+1 time.

Just 3 hours after the transient electromagnetic disturbances had struck, NASA, who had used the remaining of their undamaged electronic devices to restore their connection with their satellites, managed to connect with some of their satellites. As they secured a connection, one of their satellites, the SAP-satellite sent in some grim information.

The SAP-satellite was a satellite which was deployed to observe the activity of the Sun. The satellite had detected an ongoing unusual activity from the Sun, possibly an upcoming solar flare. But due to the poor connection, the information was not transmitted properly and was incomplete, but it was more than enough to conclude one thing: there was a solar flare heading towards Earth!

This information was then transmitted to the whole World as fast as possible, some Countries decided to keep quiet about it and some Countries chose to be open about it. This lead to riots, mass panicking in many Countries.

At 12:00 PM, UTC+1 time.

It had already been 3 hours since the news of the "possibly extinction-level solar flare", It was predicted that it would strike Earth at about 11:00 PM, UTC+1 time. But it had already been an hour since the estimated time and nothing specific really happened.

As the researchers and scientists of NASA bundled up together to discuss the presently strange situation, for the first time they hoped that their calculations were wrong and that they were wrong about the "extinction-level solar flare" too.

"perhaps our calculations were flawed. Since the information that we received from the SAP-satellite was missing a few parts, to begin with." Said a scientist.

"that's not possible, even if it is missing a few parts, don't forget that we can easily fill in those gaps in information by looking and studying the data that was obtained and refer it with the data of the previously observed solar flares and other unusual activities from the Sun." Said another scientist.

"Although I do agree with you, do you realize that if you prove that your calculations are correct, there won't be any Human race left on the Planet?" Said yet another scientist.

"Yeah, that's true..." Said the previous scientist, who realized that his calculations going wrong could only mean the continued existence of the Human race. But even he himself didn't feel his calculations were wrong, this was because, in his whole life, he had never flawed when it came to calculations!

"even if it is flawed or not... Its already been an hour since the estimated time the solar flare was to strike" said another scientist, he couldn't help but mention the obvious.

As those scientists and researchers of NASA were busy in contemplation, news arrived that the solar flare had indeed made its way to earth at 11:00 PM, UTC+1 time, but the solar flare had seemingly.... disappeared into nothing when it almost reached the Earth's atmosphere.

Due to the previous transient electromagnetic disturbances, their information network had slowed down immensely, but nevertheless, it was still formidable. After the news given out that a "possibly extinction-level solar flare" was making its way to Earth, many observatories across the globe were observing around for the solar flare and many of them did pick up on it but when those flares reached the Earth's atmosphere, they had miraculously disappeared.

"My calculations were indeed correct...." Said the previously mentioned scientist who had never flawed in his calculations.

"that's not the important thing now.... we need to look into this strange matter! How could those flares just disappear into nothing?!" Another scientist couldn't help but remind that scientist.

As NASA and various other similar prominent organizations looked into this matter and people were reassured that the "extinction-level solar flare" didn't manage to make it to Earth, and soon people began to calm down about the situation, Unaware that the true disaster had not yet struck.

2nd April of the Year 2100,

At 5 AM, UTC+1 time.

NASA was the first to find out where the seemingly "extinction-level solar flare" had disappeared to. After running all sorts of thermal, gamma and various other scans all across the atmosphere, NASA managed to find a sort of a portal or a "spatial crack" in the outer reaches of the Earth's atmosphere.

Given that they could even manage to find this out, even when a majority of the electronic devices in the World were damaged due to the previous day's transient electromagnetic disturbances, NASA proved that it was in a new league of its own. This was to be expected, by the Year 2050 the U.S government decided to give NASA a funding of more than 40 billion U.S dollars, perhaps they had foreseen a need for greater advancements of their space and aeronautics-related fields. With greater results shown during the progressive years, the financial budget of NASA increased drastically as well.

By the Year 2100, one could only imagine how much funding NASA got from the federal budget.

The discovery of "spatial crack" lead to the study of Astronomy to a whole new level.

This discovery of "spatial crack" led to an immense frenzy among various scientists, they wondered if it was a possible portal to another Universe or to another dimension as a whole or whether it would lead to a parallel dimension, world, or a whole parallel Universe? Perhaps there could even be a parallel Earth?

With excitement, various scientists across the globe were fixated on this "spatial crack" and once again NASA, which could be considered as the leading organization in the aeronautics and space-related fields, showed its capability to the World as it announced that the "spatial crack", which was just in the outer-reaches of the Earth's atmosphere could be a very serious threat to the existence of Earth as a whole and not just the Human race.

After various data as per scans and others reports that were gathered and carefully compiled and worked upon by countless scientists at NASA, they had discovered that this "spatial crack" was actually immensely unstable as a whole. They concluded that the "spatial crack" was something that should originally not exist. But since it did exist, it continuously violated the laws of space which caused its un-stability. This un-stability couldn't be explained as the "spatial crack" as a whole was a newly discovered phenomena and a concept which would require more efforts and time to be looked into.

At 10 AM, UTC+1 time.

NASA was pre-occupied with a variety of reports that kept on coming in relating to the "spatial crack".

"I think we are screwed..." Said a scientist.

"since the "spatial crack" is possibly unstable for most of the part, we don't know what consequences would lie for us... if this "spatial crack" collapses onto itself, what would be the result?" Said another scientist.

"either way ...It wouldn't be anything good for us." Pitched in another scientist.

3rd April of the Year 2100,

At 4 AM, UTC+1 time.

Massive amounts of meteorites began to strike down onto Earth, the source of these meteorites was quickly traced back to the "spatial crack", meteorites came out continuously from the mysterious "spatial crack" and they were hurled towards Earth.

The sudden appearance of meteorites on a global scale caused mass deaths and lead to the destruction of all the technological developments that mankind had made. Various Countries tried using nuclear technology and other kinds of advanced nuclear-weapons on the "spatial crack", in hopes to perhaps make it collapse onto itself and re-assimilate with space as a whole. Although the consequences of such actions were unknown, the attempts were for naught as those continuously hurled out meteorites from the "spatial crack" served as a barrier for all sorts of nuclear-weapons and not a single one could actually make it to the "spatial crack".

This was only the beginning of the end,

Those meteorites came onto Earth continuously and this kept on happening for the next one-whole year!

The World suffered continuous deaths during this one-year-period, many innocents died, all known technological developments of the World were wiped out. People struggled for resources, this included basic amenities like food, shelter and water.

This event was later remembered in history as "The Cataclysm", which was synonymous with dread and absolute terror.

After this "Cataclysm" ended, all that was left behind was a World filled with destruction and uncountable deaths. The resources had become much more scarce and precious!

But this was not the end! After the Cataclysm ended, for the next whole-year various deaths were observed all throughout the globe. People had no way to discern their cause or how they spread. It was a strange epidemic of sorts that kept killing lots of people for the next whole year.

People were mentally and physically exhausted, the once glorious Human race which was once before living in their own homes and in rich luxurious villas were now forced to live with animals in the forests and plains.

The people were no longer united, so was the World. There was no contact that remained between the various Countries. Everyone was left to fend for themselves in the now resource-scarce World.

This led the World into a new Era...

20 years later, the Year 2120.

An organization consisting of groups of scientists who were led by the greatest scientist of the new Era, Ainz de Saint discovered a new type of energy present in the Earth's atmosphere. They traced back its origins to the Cataclysm and this energy they termed as "Void Energy". They believed that this energy was brought in by the Cataclysm and was deposited into the Earth's atmosphere. After doing an extensive research into it and conducting various tests, they further discovered that this Void Energy could be successfully harnessed by the human body and could be used to "Cultivate". Which before was considered as a mere fantasy, could now very likely become a reality.

They also concluded that the strange mass genocide that had occurred after the Cataclysm, which lasted up to a year, was caused by this Energy. This was because they found out that this Void Energy possessed an inherent pressure which possibly had caused the quick deaths of people with weaker bodies, as they couldn't bear this pressure. While those with stronger and healthier bodies survived.

This organization formed by Ainz de Saint was known as Organization of Research and Development, O.R.D organization and had the goal to explore and conquer the unknowns! The existence of Void Energy served as their motivation. This Organization consisted of bright scientists from all across the globe. 20 years after the Cataclysm, the World was already in the beginning phases of its recovery.

With the discovery of Void Energy, the World had a new hope. Perhaps with Void Energy, the World would recover back smoothly to its peak and its advancements would be explosive.

The O.R.D organization drew support from the whole world and at the same time was an independent organization. They had become the symbol for research and consisted of the smartest and brightest researchers and scientists across the globe. Given that due to the Cataclysm lot of brilliant scientists and researchers died, but the remaining prominent ones all joined up under the greatest-scientist of the new Era, Ainz de Saint.

Hence the World placed their hopes onto the O.R.D organization and hoped to see a World where they were back to its former glory having various electronic devices, vehicles, and other essential goods that would work on Void Energy.

But who would have known that the smart folks of the O.R.D organization, along with Ainz de Saint would be so much more focused on using the human body to harness the Void Energy to "Cultivate".
