1000 Reincarnations (ATG Fanfic)

The sun was shining down on Hong Kong, illuminating the turquoise waters, and lighting up the golden sands of the beach that Ao Rai was currently sitting on. Ao Rai was a tall guy, reaching up to 6 foot 1, and having a luscious head of black hair and an angular, well defined face, making him popular with the ladies. Today he was meeting his girlfriend in fact. "Hey bro, you forgot your lunch!" Ao Rai smiled and turned around since that was the voice of his brother, Ao Tian, 2 years younger than him at 14, while he himself was 16. Turning around he saw his brother crossing the busy main road to the beach, without looking, and as he ran across a car came round the bend 100 meters away, completely out of control. Ao Rai stood up and sprinted towards his brother, shouting,"Get out of the way, Move Tian'er!" In shock his brother stood stock still, as if waiting for the car to hit him, before looking to his left and seeing it, only then moving, too late to dodge the car though. Gritting his teeth Ao Rai jumped and pushed his brother out of the way of the car at full stretch, before feeling an immense crushing sensation in the side of his body, before everything faded to black...

Gasping for air, Ao Rai sat up, finding himself in an infinite expanse of black. Looking around there were was nothing else there, except for a simple table with a chessboard, ready to play, set up on the table. Confused and groggy, Ao Rai stood up and walked towards the table before sitting down in one of the two chairs, which seemed logical since there was nothing else in the weird room he was in. Suddenly, a blinding light flashed and a wizened old man appeared opposite Ao Rai, however despite his old body he seemed to carry an imperial and emotionless aura, as if he was above everything and separate from mundane matters. In shock from his sudden appearance Ao Rai had his mouth open not sure what to say,"W-who are you?" Ao Rai spluttered out eventually. The old man responded by simply saying,"Heaven's will." his voice was as cold and emotionless as his appearance. Ao Rai frowned and asked,"Why am I here?" confusion evident on his face, "Because you died of course." Responded heaven's will. Ao Rai's face instantly paled and he seemed as if he was about to throw up before slumping back into his chair, his downcast emotions evident from his body posture. That cold and emotionless voice rang out again,"But you are here now to gain the chance for a better life next reincarnation, due to your merits from your past life, such as sacrificing yourself to save your brother." Instantly, Ao Rai snapped to attention,"There is life after death?" He asked, shock and awe evident on his face. "Yes" heaven's will replied once again, "and if you last 1000 moves on my world Dao board you will be reborn in your next life on the profound sky continent from the realm of the Ancestral God with the World Dao physique and knowledge of 1000 previous lives to aid you, however if you fail then not only will you not gain that, you will live out your mundane existence on a much simpler plane such as earth again, never experiencing the wider world." Ao Rai was visibly confused, wondering what this so called heaven's will was talking about, before he realised that the world Dao board he mentioned must be the chess board. Smirking, Ao Rai said,"I was the best at chess at my old school, where there were over 1,000 students, I think I can last for a decent amount of time." And so like that they begun, first heaven's will moved his pawn forwards, and then Ao Rai, still smiling made contact with his pawn and moved it forwards, laughing in his mind,"Just regular chess whats so special about that, acting all mysterious, shitty old heavens!" Ao Rai was still laughing until he placed his piece down, because as soon as he did he seemed to be transported to a different dimension, blacking out and waking up, inside of a... newborn baby's body! The piercing voice of the heaven's rang out again inside his head,"each move you make will constitute one entire reincarnation, which you will view through someone else's eyes. This is the foundation for the world Dao physique which I will bestow upon you, however you must view at least 999 reincarnations, before the 1000th reincarnation which will be yours into a new world, to be able to have this physique. Good luck!" And with that the voice of the heaven's will faded away as Ao Rai began the longest chess game of his life, and began his journey through myriad reincarnations before his true reincarnation into the next life.
