Shen’s family raises them as a boy because they can't stand to bind their child's feet and let their kid suffer. However, she has to get married due to the village elder's suspicion and the thoughtful push of a noble woman of higher birth who wants him. And cue the introduction of Pei Ling. Pei Ling— an arrogant castle woman who has nowhere to go seeks the hand of Gao He Shen and a child; who's going to tell them He Shen's a woman? Historical context takes place during the fall of the Song empire and the rise of the Southern Song Empire. With the Northern Jin getting stronger and closer who knows what new troubles will arise in He Shen’s life? But seeing as aggression is building up on both sides of the war front as their young emperor takes the throne. Warnings: There is some history delineation at some point as this is based on a fictional character. Parents and elders arrange marriages Some lack of communication, but it gets better after the first time. Specifically because that character is a watch and learn type. There is a major god in the story, no they will not be introduced until later in the story and “magic” doesn’t get introduced until later as well. As this is historical context if I get things wrong please correct me as I have only studied for at least 6 months before writing this story every aspect that I would need for it. Story progression kicks off at the beginning. All of the characters weren’t made for you to like them, only for you to see them as human. I can’t draw well so you’re going to have to live with the cover I made.
There was a family in the lower gentry so far down they were insignificant; but given land from their ancestors relations from the start of the Song dynasty and relation to the last Empress. They may not live in the capital, but the family was happy managing a portion of the state.
The rest of the family is positioned at each corner of the Yangzhou territory, the Gao family takes up a shared area in Northern Yangzhou near the ocean, but not the closest.
Most of Gao Yangzhou has lush forests, run-off rivers and ponds.

He Shen's parents refused to bind the child's foot, not wishing their child to suffer like it's mother had, who had recovered her feet after five years of trying to set it back. The family disguised the child as a boy and raised it as a man. The midwife that aided the birthing had her silence bought off and kept as a house servant.
However, the gods favored the Gao family's child too much, blessing him with stunning beauty that enraptured the hearts of all of the women in their village, they fawned over them wishing their sons could be even a fraction as perfect.
The Northern Jin had taken over and now a portion of their territory falls deathly close to the Song- Jurchen boundary. Near the now fallen Kaifeng.
On a day, where the clouds sit by idly, He Shen only grew more skilled in anything they tried. It only served to worry their parents more as word spread about their precious child.
Be it physical labor, caring for the sick and even weaving for his mother and the older widows he proved to be absolutely extraordinary in the work. Not to mention being coupled with the ability to not get sick much or to walk off of many diseases. It wasn't hard to see why the army heard about them, she was the perfect solider and they were not going to miss out on taking them.
But He Shen only knew, 「Keep your head down, stay out of affairs that can get you in trouble.」Which a certain old man hasn't seemed to register yet to not mess with a god blessed human.
