Review Detail of GodOfLightning in Son of Franklin

It’s a very good story from what I’ve read with great writing. Sadly the mistakes were to big and many for me to keep reading but that is only because of the lack of realism in the novel I think those that can get around that would love the book and do recommend it to them. Now onto why I can’t keep reading it sadly. First off the child has his mothers last name which wouldn’t happen unless she was a prostitute or someone who has slept with a random person other than that his should have his fathers as at this time only when you don’t know the fathers name do you give him his mothers last name. Secondly they are a wealthy family but don’t act like it but more like a modern one. This is one of the two or three major problems I had with it. He had to ask his grandfather for tutoring when a wealthy family would have started it at probably five on their own. He then gets a random servents son who trespassed on his private tree house sort of like just doing what you want in someone’s room which servents can’t do never the less their children. The grandfather then asks the servant if her child could learn with his son which would not be allowed and wouldn’t ask her as she is a women and for this time period their opinion doesn’t matter at all. The MC is already placing his modern ideals into the story with no repercussions and in an unrealistic way. The mother is still unmarried which would be realistic if she had a child outside marriage normally but they are a wealthy family so would be able to find a less wealthy family to marry her into but doesn’t. Also the granfather doesn’t look for any betrothals for his grandson who would be his heir which is also unrealistic as at age 16 you are expected to have your first child and they are an influential family so they should already look for one in other families for connections or just of equal wealth for relations between the families and so they don’t have to marry into lesser families. All in all other than the unrealism it’s a great novel that I would recommend if you can get around that.
