I find it interesting how these mysterious power-ups only happen after the MC is kicked out. They never get them earlier despite the only difference in their situation being a broken heart or overly emotional outburst. Honestly, they should be angrier at whatever is controlling the outcome of the abilities. Toru just conveniently jumps 280 level after leaving the Hero's party? It should have been obvious something is playing with his life. The OG author, like many light novel creators, wanted to have the scorned hero archetype without a proper reason for him being weak for so long. Maybe it'll be explained later, maybe not. Either way, too many LN authors use it without an appropriate reason why the power-up should work the way it does.
