It's rare that I write a positive review - I can't even remember the last time I did so - but that should show you how much I want this novel to be continued. The overall setting is not really unique, but it doesn't have to be, especially when the MC has a very balanced cheat - if you can even call it one, it's just a step up from photographic memory. He's not smarter, or more talented, or able to obtain information others cannot, he's just able to remember anything. And given that magic involves remembering or recreating the nearly-unrememberable, that is a big help, but not earth-shatteringly so, I think. For character design, there's not a lot to say. One point tho, despite first impressions, if you think about it, he's not arrogant, he's just aware of his status and abilities, and acting accordingly. To those who have real abilities, or hold important positions for a good reason (not just "daddy is a government official, so bow down to me"), he treats them with dignity and respect. To cheaters, connivers, backstabbers, and those who've gone mad with perceived power, he shuts them down without hesitation. He somewhat lacks common sense, but that's to be expected from someone with absolutely none of his body's original memories. The story is rather original, with numerous twists I'd never seen before (which is also saying something, to date, I've read literally hundreds, maybe even over a thousand, other novels). Some portions are predictable, but it's hard to avoid that no matter how good an author you are. Plot armor (of the egregious variety) seems to be nonexistent thus far, with the most glaring example being, uh... a bookworm knowing the Collatz Conjecture (3n+1 problem, for those who don't remember it by that name), or maybe a memory-preservation (aka mental stability) cheat having protective effects on his mind? Easy to understand explanations for kinda improbable events can't really be called egregious plot armor, the only luck there is being in a situation where his skills can shine in the first place. Sure, instead of a mental attack they could've just fireballed him, but they wanted to leave no trace for contextually obvious reasons, so mental attacks were the best option by far. Not much else I wanna say, so go read it and let WN know they should continue its translation of this excellent novel.
