The story is written well with a bold and loud protagonist who instantly grips your attention and isn't dumb like a lot of others. He honestly kind of reminds me of Touma from 'A Certain Magical Index', with the bad luck thing. The biggest criticism I have to give is the dissonance between the epic book cover and then the first chapter starting off with a teenager late on his way to high school.

The comparison wasn't a criticism as I enjoy Index as well. It's just that I got the same enjoyment from Index here as well.
