How much more chapters do u need for u to start reading?
For a decent novel 20 for good 30 for great 100 At 100 it is unlikely that the author will drop it, as it would mean he or she wasted their time. Some authors write multiple chapters due to having a timeline in their head or on paper which allows the flow of content for go smoothly. Things to determine quality of novel other than quantity, is quality of dialogue between characters, consistency with what's happening,understanding of who your readers are, translation quality, reasonable understanding of who is doing what and why.
Example of a bad novel for me would be the fan fiction reincarnated as tony stark with a skill. Yes their is more than 100 chapters but reasons why all you need to do is read the reviews to know why. For me it's the fact that tony is meant to be like 2 years old but doing incredible things, Steve has his own personality in comics etc but in this he has none and is unreasonably stupid.
Also for quantity of chapters having multiple chapters before start of novel explaining stuff isnt good. 1 makes people think there is more content to your story than their actually is 2 try to incorporate those into story/ or have part at end of chapter with additional info.
I am not saying you do that but have seen other authors do that with chapters multiple times.
