Just from reading this synopsis I imagine a good story about the main character. I hope that you can research the world war to better assist you in writing. Look for WW2 In Color and find a similar series about the earlier series of wars to help? My last point is that I really truly hope that you can write flashback scenes, maybe make the final antagonist a enemy from the past? Werewolves maybe?

Haha, worry not -- I fancy myself a bit of a WW1/WW2 history buff, so things should be fairly believable (the supernatural elements aside). WW2 in color is definitely a good one. I've also been following The Great War, and Military History Visualized has a lot of great videos on the topic... As for introducing enemies from his past and including werewolves in the story... you won't be disappointed. :)
