In a small town, where the mundane pulsed through everyday life, 18-year-old Jake found himself in the sterile walls of a hospital room, the faint beeps of machines marking the slowing rhythm of his heart. The diagnosis had come months ago: leukemia, a word that twisted his stomach tighter than any knot he could imagine. As days turned into a blurred haze of treatments and endless waiting, Jake struggled not only with the weight of his illness but also with the lingering hope that life still held something for him. His favorite escape had always been the vibrant world of anime, particularly Dragon Ball. Hours spent watching Goku, Vegeta, and their friends battle villains and find the strength to overcome insurmountable odds had fueled his dreams. As he lay in bed, pale and frail, the world of adventure outside the sterile walls felt tantalizingly close yet infinitely distant. He often daydreamed about being part of that world—a place where energy could be harnessed and battles were fought with sheer will and strength, where life could be taken back through training under the mighty Kaio-ken or even through the mystical Dragon Balls themselves. As the end drew nearer, those daydreams morphed into a gripping desire. What if he could start over? What if he could leave behind the pain, the machines, and the coldness of the hospital room for the thrill of training with Piccolo or joining Goku on an intergalactic journey? As he drifted off to sleep he awoke not in his hospital room but before a giant door… ________ VERY IMPORTANT DISCLAIMERS!!! - This is my FIRST TIME writing a fanfic or even a novel for that matter.
