If this is still a game, does it mean someone is currently playing as Samael's character? Does it essentially mean all his actions and achievements aren't his own, but the player's?

Cole will be doing the same thing to you again one day. Not saying you should feel sympathy for Sophie, but be careful when it comes to Cole. He may be enjoying the cause for your affection, but will go back to his old ways once you like him again.
