Hey! Thanks for your comment and pointing out your confusion/plot hole. Please bear with me as this was my first time writing since a long time ago :) but I have made the changes and here’s the updated explanation! Al liked Ethan when they were in middle school but drifted apart when they were in high school where they went on to date other people. Al and Caleb did break up before she left for college. Only when she came back from Paris/college that she fell in love with Ethan again. Hope this helps to make it clearer !
