Ragnar is the biological son of King Valdemar, and the king simply went along with Ragnar’s desire to keep his identity as the crown prince a secret. Similarly, Uzana is also the biological son of King Valdemar, but from a different mother, as it is common for women to die during childbirth in Metaena.
It’s simply because Ragnar found it amusing to hide his identity, and King Valdemar agreed to indulge Ragnar’s whim. Lol.
Ragnar is actually the crown prince as well as the warlord of the Kingdom of Gamaaloth. However, during the war, he operates solely as a warlord without ever officially revealing his status as the crown prince. The people of Cescil can only speculate about his true identity (rumored to be the adopted son of King Valdemar), especially since, when there were rumors of Ragnar’s death, it seemed odd that the king himself would go to such lengths to personally retrieve his body. Given that Ragnar is someone who finds it unnecessary to explain himself unless absolutely necessary, he only reveals his true identity at the very end of the war when he plans to claim Sophia Mary as his prize. Moreover, unlike in Gamaaloth, the culture in Cescil dictates that members of the royal family and nobles do not participate on the front lines of war.
