Ash finished exchanging everything he wanted, he got a pretty good reward after he came back from Sayoko, and he exchanged the weakest of the Grimer, he gave the stronger ones back to his Grimer to absorb back into one.

Admittedly even though the whole experience made him want to break Surge in half, it was quite beneficial, he learned to actually fight, his Pokemon got good training under a more experienced source, and most importantly he finally got a 6-pack….he still wants to break Surge's arm.
