jiraya wasn't training them yet but a rogue ninja was trying to kill them That's when the eyes activated and jiraya started training them because of it and the eyes all so activated when his parents were killed but deactivated soon after

i feel like that should have been a closer fight in the original they were pretty easy to beat by hanzo

one of the better stories about dragons I've read i feel like the author needs to build up the lore around where he currently is more then he has I think that would improve the quality of the story and explain what he's been eating in the feasts a bit more then what's being said now other than that the story is fine
