Zeus was attacking from afar with lighting bolts, because Chimera was breathing fire and the snake on its tail had deadly poison, It's body was strong enough to destroy or throw huge boulders (20-30m in diameter). But Zeus was mostly afraid of snake because he didn't know if he had enough resistance for poisons to risk.
