See this! I just gifted the story: Balloon
it was chapter 32
so far the 40 chapters are promising! ⚠️ the only reason I came to write a review is for a trigger warning! ⚠️ I wish I remember what chapter it was, and I'll write it in the comments when I go back to check, but I wanna say in the mid 30 chapter's there is subtle, or maybe not so subtle, s*xual abuse between the xin step siblings. it's disheartening to read about and it definitely won't be brought up more than once since it, unfortunately, is used as character development for the xi family's eldest daughter. so please read with caution!
I truly have no idea how this novel has so many positive reviews. it only made me frustrated and feel like I wasted my time
I started to really like this novel until I kept reading and basically reading the same thing over and over again within the plot. the fact that the relationship starts off on a big misunderstanding/lie is enough to make me exhausted reading. it would be fine if this lasted for about 200 chapters, but the fact that it makes up 60% of the novel is tiresome and frustrating to read. the same thing happens over and over and the fact that they won't communicate or tell the truth is beyond frustrating. I'm glad I only ended up spending coins on 50 chapters before I realized I should check out a site that has the free translations because if I didn't I would have been exceptionally mad I spent coins on over 500 chapters only to end up being frustrated that nothing has progressed or gotten better between the leads. plus the fact that this mom wants to hide her kids from the world and danger so much that she neglects being a real parent to do so makes no sense to me. she abandoned her kids to be in a marriage she doesn't wanna be in but is in to protect her kids??? what?!
I absolutely love the authors other works, so I'm super happy that there's another one!! I truly hope this gets picked. not only is the author really good at drawing in the reader, but the plot and characters are always a++. now, on to the topic of this particular novel. so far I really like the characters and plot. at first you think it's the clichéd unknown lost daughter story, but not really. we don't know how FLs life was before she was taken in by her "real family" (they're trash so far and I hope they leave her alone because she's better off without them), but we get some details as the story progresses. I love the fact that she was transmigrated, but returned to her body, and I hope that's explored some more! I'm always a sucker for FL's that hide their true skills, ambitions, and talents, so I'm looking forward to whatever else this FL has up her sleeve!! as for the ML, he isn't in the story so much in the beginning, but as he's already doting on her a bit, I can tell he's gonna be a big hit with readers. I'm so excited for more and can't wait!!
I wish I read this review before I got 20 chapters in because now I'm just angry about how the characters act and how weird the story has progressed so far.
I actually really enjoyed this novel, and I sincerely hope that it gets picked because I'm so sad that it's already over! On top of the fact that the FL is witty, strong, and takes no bs from anyone, living with no fear she also has a huge mystery behind her. she doesn't rely on her husband or the many connections she has backing her. she's truly a strong FL, especially since her husband is pretending to be paralyzed. he doesn't pull any strings behind her back to help her, she solves every problem completely on her own while he supports her from the side. he's already falling for her and I only hope to see things get more sweet between them. the ML isn't a jerky CEO like in most novels that have this similar plot. he's distant and says very little, but he isn't overbearing or pretentious. although I wasn't happy with his character in the 1st or 2nd chapter (I forgot which one) where he possibly rapes her right after their wedding. I'm curiously if that's going to be brought up again because it was only momentarily talked about qnd the FL brushes it off as that he isn't capable to rape her because he's paralyzed (but faking it very well) either way, I hope he apologizes for it and doesn't turn into the stereotypical CEO'S who don't care about how their wife feels. I also wanna read more about her god parent and see how they dote on the FL.
okay so, I want to love this book. I really do. it's somehow different from other novels and is actually interesting. the thing that makes me not want to continue reading, however, is the obvious homophobia. this novel still would have been good without the FL's husband being evil for being gay more than for cheating. it's obvious that the FL is more outraged that he cheated on her with a man than the cheating itself. I believe there's even a part where she even says that if he cheated on her with a female instead of a male, she'd be fine with it. but because it's a guy, she wants to destroy his life. the husband could have still been written as evil for cheating without the homophobia. cheating, regardless of gender, is awful and people should be punished for it. however, being more upset by the gender they cheated with than the actual cheating is basically unnecessary hate. you can hate him, but you can't hate him for being gay. other than that, the story is interesting. I would love to read more if it wasn't for the homophobia, especially since it's in almost every chapter.
