The reincarnators were necessary for plot purposes. I could not have his pathway directly leading to Great Old one, it would be too ridiculous. Either the powers of the Great old one would be weaker than others who had more pathways leading to merging into the GOO, or the advancement requirements would have to be absolutely bonkers which would not make any sense. Instead, a little action among Sequence 0s I felt would be a lot more preferable to the readers.
