Aren’t your summarising too much with that comment? See, this is exactly what I meant that you only focus on what Nick has done. You think that he is doing this and that so that he can be the ‘better person’. Remember Pator? A kid, a pawn in someone else’s plan. He died as punishment, disregarding any chance of redemption. Remember the massacre? They died as a consequence of Nick’s inexperience. A literal thematic piece of the story is that action have consequences - REGARDLESS OF INTENTIONS. Albert didn’t die because he was evil. In fact, the reason that Nick found conflict with him was so that he wouldn’t feel as guilty. Pretty selfish huh. That is still disregarding his actual reason to visit; Julian. Albert died as a result of Nick’s weakness. Albert died because he was already a target. I never said that what Nick did was right, he just didn’t have any fair options for him. The real bullshit, that you have problems with, is the unfairness in the story. I feel like you think that Nick isn’t affected by this unfairness, yet you forget that he goes through trauma and desperation. There are literal chapters where he goes through self-conflicting thoughts. Now? He is only living for his work - how is that even rewarding? Of course that would feel like watching a drone. So, what is the source of this unfairness? Fucking specters man. Cities are literally powered by people suffering from specters. It is actually so funny that you look for realism when you ignore the desperation caused by this unfairness. I don’t like or hate Nick’s character. I think he is interesting. What I enjoy most about this story is the world, so I can overlook the flaws of characters. A mistake simply becomes an element of the story. The funny thing is how inconsistency in characters could easily be blamed on specters, but Heat hasn’t done that a lot.
You missed my point. You think that his goodness would stay the same after all the events his has experienced. That is just dumb dude. You think he would continue working under someone who has completely lost his trust? You forget that his friend built that friendship over a corpse. It was only a matter of time until the MC found out. Revenge was simply overdue. You think that the MC wanted to kill his old mentor? You forget his options at the time. It was either to forget his dream or to make a sacrifice to keep it. The story would’ve basically ended if he didn’t make a sacrifice. Either he dies or becomes a background character in the world again. You hate how the MC is a hypocrite, yet you forget how his world is of full of hypocrites. Wonder why? It is simply power. It is literally a thematic piece of the story. Look at the authoritative groups, remember how all of them use corrupt means to maintain their power. If they didn’t, then they would have to lose more than their morals. They are long past the point of what they have done, instead it is how far will they go. The MC has simply become a main participant in this rat race. Now you can’t figure out his changes, but that is because you only look at what he has done. Think about what he has lost and what he has gained. Think about what he has kept and what he keeps hidden. The MC is certainly not a likeable character, but that doesn’t mean he has no character.

There it is, Nick killing a specialist as an expert. Sure he had help, but the balls on this guy are too big.
The boar not growing stronger? Better wish a meteor falls cos that is more likely to happen.
Inala in a direct confrontation? Haha, he is a menace. It is a big IF for Inala to do a direct confrontation.
