Chapter 1Giving Happiness to Others

Prolong Prolong

She wipes her sweat after walking for hours under the hot sun. The mountain has no cemented road for a car to pass, so they had to walk on foot. Melissa and her team brought educational books to the mountain for the children to read. It was also part of her work. She informed her team they could rest for a while.

As she scanned the area, she gasped as she saw a breathtaking view. This was the most profound and magnificent panorama she encountered in her life. The sun rose between the mountains and the clouds covered the valley like a blanket. The experience was ethereal like you were sitting and cloaked by it.

After five minutes of resting, they continued their journey. While walking, she remembered how it all started; how she underwent the trials in her life that led her to this moment. Before they got near the river, she told the team to rest for a while because she had something to say.

"Everyone, I have an announcement. We will reach the river in a short while, but the way to cross will be difficult. Before I came here, the bridge has already collapsed, and the only thing left of the bridge is the lines, to be exact, cable lines. We have two options to reach the other side. One is to walk on the line with nothing like a safety harness attached and the other way is to ride a raft to paddle by a local and will take us to the other side. That's all. Questions."

"Are There any other way?" Mia asked, with worry in her face.

"There is no other way," Melissa answered with honesty.

"Mia, cheer up. This is part of our work. Being a social worker, sometimes, we take risks to accomplish something." Jane encouraged Mia.

"Ok! Let's go, everyone. Choose which way you'll take. The student is waiting for the books for them to read," Melissa said with a smile.

They continued their journey until they reached the river. There were locals at the river with their raft while people were walking on a line with their hands holding another cable above their heads to keep them in balance. The cable line was an inch thick and had the strength to bear the weight of an average man walking alone but only one person at a time.

The team also saw they were at a cliff. They went down to the riverside and asked the locals.

"Sir, can we ride your raft? We need to cross the river to deliver something to the school." Melissa asked the man on the raft.

"Sure, Ma'am. Name your price. But I can only take two to three people on my bamboo raft."

"Okay. We need five bamboo rafts. I will ask people to bring the books to the other side through the line. Who wants to go first?" Melissa looked back at her companions.

"Me, Jane and Andrew will go first. So we can receive the books when the others reach the other side from here." Mia said while looking at the raft.

"Me, Isaac, and Matthew will be next," Dianne said.

"Me, Ashton, and Zoie will be third to go," Nikka said.

"Me, Jean, and Alfred will be fourth to ride," Nelson replied.

"So, it will be me and Melissa will be the last to ride the raft," Philip said.

"Ok, then. I will go now and ask the people up there." Melissa went after she said it.

She approached the people standing in a queue to walk on the line. "Excuse me. Can I ask if it is okay to bring this book to the other side using the lines? We don't want the book to get wet."

"Sure! We can carry books and other things for you," one of the locals replied.

"Thank you for your help."

She went back to the riverside and rode the raft with Philip. As they arrived on the other side, the books were already there. They continued the journey and finally, they have reached their destination. The school was at the top of a mountain.

Panjang Miracle School is the only available school in the mountains. There are five buildings made of wood, and it was built in a 'U' formation. The flagpole was at the center of the school ground.

As they reached the vicinity of the school, the flag ceremony was about to start but the ceremony halted when the teachers and the students saw them. Visitors were rare so the locals' excitement was to the brim seeing them coming. The teachers and students greeted them with wide grins and great anticipation.

"Welcome to our school. We are happy to see you all," the principle Mrs. Anna R. Carlos said as she walked toward Melissa's group and shun the students from surrounding them. The kids smiled and giggled with jubilance when they saw the packages they brought. Melissa was touched by this site.

"Thank you for welcoming us. We are here to give some things for the children and leave more books for them to use." Melissa said as she shook hands with the school principal.

"I'm glad you came. That would be wonderful. The children and their families will be very happy with your help. If you will excuse us, we need to finish our flag raising ceremony." Mrs. Carlos gave her biggest smile.

"We will join you then," said Melissa.

"Children, go back to your designated lines," said the principal. The teachers gathered the kids once again and finished the ceremony. A teacher guided the team to the Home Economics room and prepared for the team's breakfast. Minutes after, Melissa's team distributed clothes, shoes, bags, and school supplies which were received with grateful smiles and thankful spirit by the students. Their smiles infected the visitors and could not help but embraced the children. In the afternoon, it rained. The parents said the river was not safe to cross and they had to stay for a night.

"What! No, no, no. I can't stay here. I have so many paper works I left to finish and the deadlines are on Friday. I have four days to go. I am so doom." Mia was hysterical and walked back and forth inside the room. Her mind was on the unfinished paper works she left behind.

"Mia, will you please calm down? Andrew, calm Mia down." Melissa said to Andrew, who is right beside Philip.

"All we have to do now is calm down and settle ourselves first. Us, boys, will stay in the other room while the girls will stay in this room. If you need something, ask Melissa for the girls and me for the boys. Are there any more question?" Philip said while the rain was still pouring down but no one replied. Philip cared less. He had to do what needed to be done.

"Okay then. Boys follow me to the other room. And Andrew, when Mia calms, just follow to the other room. Okay?"

"Sure, Philip. Thanks for the reminder." Andrew replied as he hugged Mia while patting her back.

Melissa went to the principal's office together with Mia, Andrew, and three other girls. After they left, two boys came to the room talk to the two remaining girls.

…....…

"Guys, I hate Melissa so much." One girl said with anger.

"I know you hate her because Philip loves her and not you," One boy said.

"I hate her for being so bossy. I hate coming here. She did not ask if I liked to come here or not. Since we are part of the team, we have no choice but to follow. Who votes for her to be the leader of this project?" another girl said.

The other guy walks while thinking of a way to get even with Melissa.

…....…

The rain stops the next day. They went to the riverside to see if it was safe to cross. When they arrived at the riverside, the river was muddy and roughly flowed in strong currents with wood debris and other objects from the mountains washed away after the torrential rains. Melissa is about to step on the edge of the cliff when she felt a hand on her back pushing her to the rushing water. She tried to grab something, but it was too slippery and fell into the unmerciful river.

"Melissa, lookout." Philip runs toward Melissa but it was too late.

The locals present jumped into the river and dove in to rescue Melissa. Philip looked at the person who pushed Melissa.

"Why did you that?" Philip angrily grabbed the man by his shirt's collar. His eyes were bloodshot and ready to smite the person, fearing the man who started to tremble. "Why did you do that? Answer me?"

"Let me go," said the man in fear as he tried to jerk Philip's hands on him. However, Philip was a well-built man with strong arms in years of bodybuilding. He couldn't let go from Philip's firm grip. The rest of the group was still shocked to see Melissa fell and was dumbstruck, leaving them mute.

"Pray that Melissa is alive or I will file a murder case when we get back to the city. And have your license revoked and banned from reapplying. Then I'll make sure you will rot in jail. " Philip shouted fiercely.

The Legendary Actor

After getting the final relief from his past sufferings, Chu Jiashu was given a second chance when he found himself in the body of an infant from an aristocratic family of Hall. Now, nothing is going to stop him from achieving his long-cherished dream of acting. Enter Renly Hall, a Hollywood miracle of 21st century. Note from the translator - from me, that is. "Honestly, I get frustrated too much when I look at countless subpar novels being translated day after day. So much human resources wasted. I kinda get what Qidian International is doing, but it is just, I can't bear the notion of having so many wonderful novels that belong to the Chinese platform to be left in the dust. English-speaking community should know of the existence of such brilliant works, and more so, they should enjoy them. The novel is by a Chinese dude "Qiqi Jia D Mao Mao", whatever that might mean, who wrote several showbiz novels (he is probably the best at what he is doing). It is not my work, I'm just a dude who, with the help of two free machine translators (DeepL and good ol' Google), can show you a hidden gem. Wait, you said machine translators? Sadly, yes. I can't speak Chinese at all, but fortunately, this novel is structured in a machine-translation-friendly way, like really so. Most of the time context is saved. I'm just polishing the edges with my superb (not really) editing skills, so you all chaps have a splendid experience with this good staff indeed. Actually, you can go and read machine translation or just wait for my updates. Up to you dudes and dudies. And then I go away...blewb, blewb, blewb, blewb, blewb....." P.S. "I am a knife for a hire. So the managers of the site can employ me for this novel, but please don't remove it. Oh, please, I'm begging you on my knees. You guys won't even think of translating this novel, and here I am "translating" it for free,.... well for the time being, that is mwahahaha!" P.S. for P.S. This novel does not contain the following: Harem, definitely not NTR, stupid characters, NTR again (God, I hate NTR (secretly beating the meat for a one in hentai)) But this novel contains: Great storyline, relatable characters, realistic situations, very fun moments as well as tear jerking ones (so much so, you will find your throat hella sore from crying all the time), surprise after surprise for the decisions that author went with. You will have a good time indeed WARNING! READ AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION!
