Spar with The War God

'This is faster than I thought. With this rate, I should get it to 100 percent, but the only way to do that is to impress him even more.' 

Pretty much any superhuman could do all the show-off he just did. 

Yet, since the war God hasn't seen any other superhuman with Ruby's skill, so he was impressed at what the humans could do now.

"You humans have truly evolved. I can see that; I can say you guys could now be compared to gods." Sera proceeded to grab a gun with a blue energy stripe surging through it.

"I don't think that's the right way to put it. I mean, no matter what we do, I don't think we would be compared to gods.

"Unlike the gods, who were born with their universal powers, we mortals were through mutation. I've done a lot of research about how the mutation came to be, but so far it's been futile." 

Ruby had sneakily asked the system about how mutations came to be. However, what he got from the system was what any system would say.

"Your level is too low." 

'Since Javi has been tight-lipped about this, it should be something special. Now that I think about it, even my superpowers, are they some sort of mutation?'

As though hearing Ruby's thought, the system replied:

Ruby's face scrunched a bit. He knew all about this, but this wasn't the answer he was looking for. 

'Jav, I knew all about this, but how am I getting these powers when I don't have any superpowers?

'And if I could remember, I never used any serum on myself.

Ruby had plans to use the serums on himself once so that he'd be on equal footing with the heroes, but reality struck him. The serums weren't things that were sold in shopping malls. 

Instead, they were heavily protected in some Chinese underground labs that he never cared to find because it was like finding a pin in the middle of a sea.

[«Okay, I'll let this one slide and just tell you. It's similar to the other superpowers but at the same time different.

They're not in the form of a serum. Instead, they are the abilities the creators of the system programmed into the system. So the system just transfers the ability to host directly without the need for any serum»]

Ruby grasps everything. 'So does that mean all those abilities listed in the ability shop are already stored in the system?'

Grinning, Ruby started pacing back and forth. With these new Info, he had made up his mind to purchase all the abilities in the ability shop.

However, he was pretty broke now. At best, he might only purchase useless abilities.

'Um, Jav, it's being long since I asked for a quest. Can you give me one right now?' Ruby spoke in his nicest voice.

If he needs anything from this crappy system, it's by being cunning, and so far, that's been the only way to get anything he wanted.

Javi already knew what Ruby was thinking. However, he didn't mind and proceeded to issue a quest.

Ruby opened and closed his mouth, as he didn't know what to say. 'Jav, I knew I asked you to give me a quest, but I never expected you to make me face Sera of all person?!'

[«You didn't let me finish»]

The system proceeded to explain the rewards.

Sometime later, the system was done with the reward.

Upon hearing what he would get from this training, Ruby's expression relaxed a little.

'I just need to last a couple of minutes, then I'll get shop points and experience points.' Ruby thought as he glanced at Sera, who was still running his fingers around the handgun.

"Hey, Sera, you wanna spare?" Ruby's voice was void of any intent since he wanted to make it seem as though he was just asking for a casual spar!

Sera dropped the gun and stared at Ruby, who was waiting for an answer.

"Mortal, as much as I would like to spar, even for a little while, I fear you won't last long and might even end up dead."

'His underestimating me, huh? Several people have underestimated me in the past, and for some reason, most of them end up dead.' Ruby gazed at Sera again.

"If I last more than five minutes, I'll take you on a trip to do my bidding. What do you say?"

Ruby struck a deal and waited for an answer.

Although Sera didn't have anything to gain from this deal, Ruby had a feeling the latter might want to see the world after all. 

"Okay, I'm feeling sore a little, so it won't hurt to loosen up a bit."

When Sera said these words, the system prompt also flashed.

[Quest in progress]

Sometime later—

Sera and Ruby gawked at each other as though they were in a staring competition.

Since Ruby didn't want to damage his cave, he brought Sera to the cave training room, where it would be a bit hard for anything to be damaged or wrecked.

Ruby grabbed a timer, hit a few buttons, and tossed it to the side. After tossing the stopwatch, Ruby took a large stride back as a great retractable sword appeared in his grasp.

"I'm ready. Now, why don't you come to me!" Ruby slashed the sword in the air as though he was getting used to the feeling. 

"You're not too bad with the sword, but it's just average." A sword over six feet long appeared in Sera's grasp as well, and both of them darted to the center. 

However, as they closed in on each other, Ruby suddenly teleported behind Sera and did a horizontal slash. 

In a split second, Sera whooshed into the air, making the slash miss.

'I all most forget about his flight!' Ruby stepped back again and leapt into the air with his superhuman strength. 

When he used the super jump, he appeared no different from someone using flight because of the distance he covered in the air.

While in the air, Ruby did a flurry of slashes in the air at once. However, Sera deflected all the slashes with just a simple movement of his hand.

"You aren't too bad! I'm impressed that a human could do this with a sword!" Sera exclaimed and proceeded to slash his sword downward.

The slash emitted a dim sizzling sound through the air as it arced closer to Ruby.

Ruby grinned wryly and vanished into thin air as though he weren't there. 

Sera glanced around. "This teleporting ability is so annoying. Now, where did—"

He snapped off when a great sword descended on him.
