Chapter five- Invigorating but forbidden
Moet isn't on her best today. Her schedule is too jam-packed, but she needs to work her way round it. Her mentor as requested she be the translator for that guy that kept looking at her in a weird way, but to be honest, he's good looking. She chuckles at her own way of reasoning as she drives to the police station. Her schedule doesn't favor her to help anyone presently, but personal well-being be damned! she just can't stand injustice especially one done base on racial prejudice. She has been a victim too, that's was why she had to take self-defense lessons and avoids clubs or bar except they're in group inorder to escape all sorts of sexual harassment and attack. It's a patriarchal society, it's difficult for an average female Korean to get justice for all the injustice against her not to mention a foreigner, they'd rather side their kinsman, it's the unwritten law of the society. While it's easy for her because she's Korean, it's a different ball game for those that can speak the language just one of the dark side of the country. It's not really the time to talk about male-priviledges in the country, that's a can of worm nobody wants to open.
Moet has been involved in all forms of cases like this, she wants to be the comfort for those that had suffered abuse from these unruly citizens. It was strange to her a bit, because she had stayed half of her life at the country side and with her father. It's a small community, everyone knows everyone, it's safe, but the city can be scary, she had heard some very disturbing stories about rape, and lots of harassment done to these foreign women and how there case is treated, she wishes she can do more other than translate for them as best as she could. She's seen first hand how brutal verbal attacks can be and disrespect just because of difference in skin color. She's been involved in lots of the cases but none of them has gotten justice they deserve, the Korean justice system needs to do better.
She horns furiously at the car, Infront of her angrily 'why drive like a maniac when you can't handle driving late at night' she hissed. Her phone rang, without checking the caller she quickly responded hoping it was the woman that needed her at the station "Hello, I'm so sorry but I'm just minutes away, would soon be there"
"I thought you will be home by now" responded the male voice
She quickly checked the caller ID and sigh "Mr Baek, I'm in a middle of something, as tomorrow's appointment been lifted?" She replied impatiently
Tae-ho was taking aback by her response, he knew it was wrong to call her, but he couldn't help it, blaming himself for calling and also curious why she's still out late at night got the best of him, and he starts to stutter "erm...no....not,,,,not at all" he pinched his brow for not been composed
"Why did you call sir?" getting pissed already but she maintained calmness
" I just want to remind you of the appointment tomorrow and how very important I take my business and I won't accept any lapses from your side" he blurted out without thinking and quickly cuts off the phone 'thats stupid, that's stupid' he chastised himself as he gently massage his temple. All conversation should wait till tomorrow.
At the other end of line Moet was visibly pissed and wondered what warranted the call in the first place, if he's not comfortable with her, he could easily gets another interpreter, why trying to boss her as if he's doing her a favor. She let out an angry sigh and drove.
The was rather eventful. She walks into her room in numb, she just couldn't get the bruises on her, off her mind. This is not real, even an animal would never treat their females like that. The victim kept nudging her to stop, she just wants to go home.
Kim Soo Young was watching as Moet opened the door sluggishly and was dragging her feet inside, she reduced the volume on the TV "what's wrong Moet?, what happened to you? Where you rob?" Kim ask perturbedly
The question broke her resolve, she started crying profusely, Kim rushed to her side to give her succour, she couldn't fathom the situation that led to her break down but she knows it has to be the height of it. Moet took her bath and wore a red silk nightgown, she moped to the fridge and got some fruits out on the plate "what are you watching?" She sit forlornly on the couch with Kim Soo Young
"365!" Kim open the blanket she had wrapped herself with to invite her to come closer
