5 To run, or stay is all the same

Seth stomped the accelerator down in a hurry. He is panicking now. He thought the tsunami won't be arriving that soon. He is wrong.

Absolutely wrong.

Luckily the traffic currently was not that bad, so Seth manage to maneuver the car smoothly on the road and took the exit on his right heading to the mountains. He knew that staying on the highway was not the best option. They are in danger now.

"Honey, are we going to make it? it is coming.." Jane who is keeping silent all this while finally speak up. She looks worried and frightened.

All of this seems like a dream. She never experienced a tsunami before. Back in China, she lives in the mountainous area with her parents, so she had never pay much attention to this natural disaster.

In this pitch-black night, without all the street lights, this town and the surrounding that used to be calming her mind, does not look familiar to her anymore. It looks so foreign and it brings a sense of emptiness to her.

As Jane mind wanders about this dire situation that is happening all around her, the tsunami already hits the shore and create unimaginable damages already.

The mighty waves swept the houses, cars, and all the other things that are in its way. It was a scary scene to watch.

People thought that if they climb high enough, they will survive. They thought if they ran fast enough, the waves would not be able to catch up.

Oh how they thought all of their effort in trying their hard to survive would help..

Sounds of people screaming and shouting were heard everywhere. Some are running leaving their houses and climbing up anything high that they can see. Some were crying for help. Some even stood still not knowing what to do.

After those gruesome moments died down, the land was barren like nothing was built on it. All structures were swept away

Somewhere in the middle of those floods, between the floating smashed cars, trees, and all other debris, Mia and Josh were holding hands while drifting away by the violent current. Their faces were covered with large bruises and blood flowed down their head frighteningly.

While holding Mia tightly, Josh whispers to Mia who is barely conscious. He knew, if he were to confess, now would be the best time to do that. "Mia, I am sorry. If today is the last moment of my life, I would like it if you were to forgive me. I-I never truly love you before. But I swear, if we were to survive this disaster together, I would love only you and I would try my best to provide the best of everything for you."

Josh smiled while looking at Mia affectionately. Mia's eyes were fluttering in response to Josh confession. Her face was so pale and she looks like she would be dying soon.

"Josh... thank you."

Mia closed her eyes tiredly. She has used up every strength that is left in her body fighting the violent current to survive.

Her adrenaline rush induced action all this while died down after hearing Josh confession. She finally heard Josh's truest feeling towards her. She knew that all this time they were dating, Josh was not serious with her. She's glad that all these were over. Josh finally said he is willing to love her after all this is over.

Soon afterward, the hand that was holding Mia's hand tightly before finally let go. Seth no longer has the strength to fight the current. All his will power was gone after he sensed that Mia is no longer breathing. He closed and his eyes and they both drifted away towards the other bodies around them that were floating lifelessly.

5 am in the morning.

They finally made it arriving at Ben's house. As soon as Seth get down his parked car, Ben came out of his house and hug his brother tightly.

"I thought that you are not coming. It's good you guys are here now... I tried calling, but it seems like the telephone line is down. There is no signal. I am so worried.." Ben hunched down his shoulder and sigh with relief when he looks at Seth.

Jane and the kids stood silently on the side of the car. Their faces were pale and ashen. They were still in shock.

All the scene they saw while they are in the car was too terrifying. They still remembered Seth driving the car madly while ditching all the obstacles and cracked roads. They felt like they are going to die from Seth's driving rather than the tsunami itself.

The whole journey they felt their bodies were rocking like they were on a boat. They thought that they were dizzy from Seth driving, but when they saw those cracked roads they finally realized that it was an earthquake.

"Kids, let us get inside first. There were some mild quakes just now, but luckily not much damages were done to my house, and it is better if you guys get some rest inside."

" I will make you guys some warm milk. Come on in. It's cold outside."

Ben was looking at Jane and the kids with sympathy. He noticed that Mia is not with them. He quickly assumed that she is busy working her shift in the hospital and did not bother to ask Seth more about it.

Seth looks up at Jane with a smiling face. His face right now showed a relieved expression and his face seems like telling Jane and the kids that finally they are safe, and that all is matter now.
