The Wire Generation

Have you ever felt like you didn't belong anywhere and you felt that way so much that you wanted to die?..Yeah!?..me too.

My name is Luckynzee Sanchez but I prefer to be called Lucky. Damn, I really hated my mother for naming me, I wish my dad did instead. My moms Puerto Rican and my dads African American. I have one older brother named Tray. I'm 17, he's 19. I hate being the baby but more so I hate that we're moving. We left New York today, leaving my mom with her new boyfriend. She wanted a life without us in it and that really sucked but being the mature adult that I was growing into, I had to understand her reasons.

There is a fresh start for my dad in LA, he received this new job offer and as for me, I am going to have a new school and friends that I am not going to have. I never had friends. I'm a loner. I was bullied a bit in school for dressing like a dude, so I knew LA would be no different.

I sighed heavily as we approach our new home.

New Home. Great.

My dad parked the car and looked back in the rearview mirror with his pearly whiles in all smiles.

"So what do you think mija?. Its nice right!?".

I shrugged in rolled my eyes than got out the car to take in the atmosphere.

We had a 2 story home now. It had a huge yard in front with a cool passage for the  driveway. Tray was already out the car taking pictures.

"Oh shit pop, this is going to be great. I can see it now, major girls all over here!". He laughed posing in the front of the house to get better angles.

I smirked at my playboy of a brother's reaction. Tray always had the friends and the girls but that's because Tray was the popular one in school. Probably wondering how I didn't get the same treatment seeing as he was my brother? Well that's because not many people wanted to hang with the lesbian sister who hid under a black hoodie all day. And I didn't care, I was use to being alone.

I sighed looking around more at the house and neighborhood as Tray in dad brushed passed me with boxes.

"Come on Lucky, we aren't going to be doing this ourselves!", dad yelled back my way.

I watched them for a second than turned to the car in grabbed what I could and joined my family. Moving in took about 3 hours. Not bad. My dad finished the kitchen and decided to cook dinner.

"Pops this looks great!", said Tray grabbing a biscuit roll.

"Nothing but the best for my kids", dad smiled biting into his chicken breast.

I played with my macaroni and cheese dabbing pieces with my spoon.

"Lucky, aren't you hungry?", dad said staring right at me.

"I'll eat once I'm back home in New York", I replied dryly.

He cleared his throat, "This is home now".

"Nah, mine is back in New York", I replied folding my arms.

"Lucky don't start this again okay, hell, I got a fresh job here and I know we all can use a fresh start".

"Maybe you can!", I slammed my hands on the table, "But I loved New York dad!, I was getting use to how my life was there now I have to start all over!".

"Now hold on missy that raising your voice needs to stop!", my dad put his head forward looking right into my eyes. I turned my head to see that Tray had stopped eating as he glanced over at dad than me.

"Why'd I have to move here, I could have stayed with ma!".

"Oh hell Luckynzee, your own damn mother didn't want you guys and I'm trying girl I am trying!! but as long as you are my kid you will live under my roof! got it!?".

I looked at my plate holding back tears.

"Yes sir".

"Good!! now eat your food in then you can go up to your room".

After that breakdown, I was finally in my room to enjoy it after everything was in place. I took in the new paint smell. Yuck. I walked around some more, I had my own bathroom and the closet was huge so that was a plus.  Even though I wasn't really happy still coming here, I knew deep down I couldn't go live with my mom even if I really wanted to so I tried to see the positive in the situation and the positive was I was in a new state, no one knew me, and that was my chance to start completely over and be the real me.

I woke up to the sun shining brightly in my window. I shook my head at the LA sun. I missed NY weather but I seen no chance of going back to ma's now especially after what dad said to me last night. I sighed heavily in slung my legs out the bed putting on my slippers than headed to the bathroom in brushed my teeth and washed my face than I headed downstairs. Tray was visible but pops was not.

"Ay dad gone to work already?!", I asked as I grabbed a piece of toast in bit into it.

"Yeah, he had to do a early meeting and I believe he has to work", Tray replied not even looking up at me, he was to busy on his iPhone, "And uh...before I forget dad said school starts on Monday for you, so to be prepared he left you this".

Tray reached into his pocket in handed me $200.

He glared at me in smiled, "Pops said spend it wisely".

I rolled my eyes in grabbed another toast than went to my room to get dressed for the day. Seeing as it was a Saturday made this a whole lot easier. I took my hair clip  not wanting to wet my hair in the shower. After soaking and scrubbing, I  hopped out throwing on my towel. Heading to the box of clothes I didn't unpack yet, I grabbed some black jeans, a blue top that had a black skull in the center and to top it off my blue chucks. I modeled in the mirror for a minute, being pleased with my appearance I grabbed a light jacket and headed back down stairs to see Tray heading out the door in a hurry.

"Where are you going?"

"Oh did I forget to mention I my dear nosey sister have a life, see ya!".

I smirked in headed out right behind him. Locking the door I saw Tray hop into a blue car, I wasn't surprised when I looked closer. A female was in the drivers seat. Figures. I waved goodbye to him in headed to the mall. I knew where the area was because as we drove to the new house, we passed a shopping mall just two blocks away. That was convenient. I smiled at the huge building in front of me as I got near. Starring so hard I didnt even realize that someone was staring at me.

There stood a guy. Brown skinned with hazel eyes. He wore a hoodie and blue jeans. His shoes were Adidas. He smiled as he finally approached me.

"Damn you looking goood".

I said nothing but stare at him.

"Can I get a name sexy?".

I gave him the side eye "Umm."

"Well umm is fly but I doubt it's your name".

I thought it was pretty funny so I had to laugh which made him laugh too.

"Okay okay so I get a laugh out of you, that'll work". He said rubbing his palms together.

I smiled in stuck out my hand.

"I'm Lucky, nice to meet you".

"I'm James and its very nice to meet you".

He shook my hand and planted a kiss on it, I was going to pull away but I liked the gesture. James and I spoke for awhile, he let me know he goes to Wire High School the school he was hoping that I'll be attending. I was quite happy, I made my first friend and before I headed inside the mall, we exchanged numbers and I went in. Once I was in, I was in heaven. The mall was huge and pretty. I checked every store first before actually purchasing anything, once I bought my stuff I headed back out to see James still in front but this time he wasn't alone. James was standing in the front of the mall with 3 other guys, two dark skinned and one light skin. I was going to just continue walking, that was until James stopped me.

"Hey Lucky, come here, these are my boys, Trevor, Dennis, and Jamal. Why don't you come hang out with us".

  I stood there thinking the worst. I thought of every LA crime show I've ever seen.

Oh my god there going to try in rape me, I thought to myself but I knew I was thinking too much and this was my only new friend and chance at being cool so I agreed to go with them, once we got there, the house was really just a kickback chill spot.

I sighed in relief.

"So James told us you might be joining The Wire", asked Dennis passing everyone a coke.

I nodded in thanked him.

"You'll be the sexiest Mexican we had!", said Trevor excited.

I snapped, "Uh no puta I'm Puerto Rican, please don't confuse the two!".

Everyone stared at me in it was quiet for a moment til James broke it with laughter.

"Aahhaahaaaa she got yo ass bruh!".

I smiled and everyone else laughed too. Dennis glared at me but then laughed too.

"Yeaa yeah Shawty got balls".

For the rest of the day we ended up getting to know each other more and I couldn't believe it but I was finally feeling like I belonged.
