Strawberry Mochis

....

As for Han Ye, after dropping Xiao Lei back at her house, he went back to Du Corporation to finish his work. After all, for a workaholic, where else could he go other than his workplace?

At about 4 p.m., he suddenly received a call from President Du asking him to bring a document on his desk and send it back to Du Mansion.

"It's for Kai Xin. Just give it to her and she'll know what to do."

Han Ye was wondering why the sudden need to do this, but he did not pose his question to his boss. As the ultimate secretary, it was his job to do whatever his boss wanted.

Thus, he merely said, "Yes, sir."

They talked about office matter and Han Ye reported back everything that came to his knowledge. At least, he reported back whatever DX actually wanted to know.

After a while, DX asked, "How's that woman?"

Knowing who he was talking about, Han Ye could only sigh and replied to him with a disappointed tone. "She refused to continue, President Du. She had a change of mind. I think it might be too overwhelming for her, considering that everything happened so fast."

There was a moment of silence before DX said, "Callum is not with me right now, but I won't be telling him that. There's a standoff here and I don't want to deal with another crybaby. We're coming back tomorrow morning. You'll tell him directly."

"Yes, President Du."

"Also, when you go to my place later, buy two pieces of strawberry mochis on your way there. There's an old shop near Du Corporation that I used to go; I'll send you the location later. Kai Xin likes their mochis the best. Bring it to her and say that it's from her loving husband."

Han Ye facepalmed himself when he heard his boss' instruction. He then replied, "Erm… Yes, President Du. Your wish is my command."

At his side, DX raised a brow when he heard the "PAP!" sound followed by the tone of his secretary. With his usual emotionless tone, he asked, "Being sarcastic now, are you?"

"How would I dare?" replied Han Ye as he leaned back against his chair in his room. He was probably the only secretary who had a room that was of the same size as the younger directors.

"Mr. Han, do you still need your job?"

Han Ye laughed as he thought, "I think at this point of time, you need me more than I need a job..."

He was only thinking about it, but due to his exhaustion, he blurted it out loud.

And DX caught each and every word of it.

"Oh? Fine, forget about your bonus for this year then. I was going to give you 18 months worth of bonus, but this is better. I can split it among the other employees. And since you're so rich now, go and interview a new secretary for me. I need someone less sarcastic."

Hearing that he was going to get 18 months worth of bonus this year, Han Ye immediately changed his tone. "No! Boss... President Du, hehe, I'm sorry. I won't do it again."

DX smirked, "I'm sure you won't."

"The bonus?" Han Ye asked meekly.

"I don't know. On account of Mr. Han's recent behavior, I might have to rethink them," said DX before he hung up.

"President Du?!" Han Ye looked at his phone and hoped that his boss was only joking. Even though he had been working for that man for years, he could never tell what was in his mind. It was rare, but DX was definitely capable of joking around.

Unfortunately, the person who suffered from the brunt of his jokes were often Han Ye...

As per DX's instruction, once he was done with work, Han Ye went to get the strawberry mochis before he headed over to Du Mansion.

At Du Mansion, when he got down from his car, he was greeted by the head butler, Old Mo.

"Old Mo, I've something to pass to Madam President Du. Where's she?"

"Madam President Du is at the outdoor swimming pool with the young masters and the little lady. Should I bring you there?"

"It's fine. I know the way," said Han Ye before he jogged toward the outdoor swimming pool.

When he got there, he saw Kai Xin soaking in the swimming pool with Little Monkey while her teenage stepsons, who were fraternal twins, played in the deeper area.

Little Monkey's real name was Daisy Du, and she was the charming and smart two-year-old daughter that Kai Xin had with DX. Other than Kai Xin, the only person who could get DX to do whatever she wanted would be Little Monkey. Not even her twin brothers were doted and spoiled that way.

Still, no one held grudges and her brothers loved her too much to feel jealous over it. After all, Little Monkey came into this world with a difficult headstart. Born prematurely as a result of a kidnapping, she did not take her first breath for the first crucial minute of her life.

After she was successfully resuscitated, she had to spend the first three months of her life fighting for survival without her mother by her side. Why? Because her mother had a cardiac arrest after the difficult birth and went into a comatose state.

Then when she was around one-year-old, Little Monkey gave her parents another scare when she had trouble breathing in the middle of the night. Luckily, she was sleeping in her parents' room that night and due to her father's insistence to check on her multiple times a night, they managed to notice it quickly.

Thankfully, other than that one scare, Little Monkey's health had been slowly improving.

Even though she was still slightly smaller than toddlers her age, but everyone was confident that she would catch up soon.

As for Han Ye, the little girl held a special place in his heart because she was the reason why he pulled the plug on his brain-dead wife.

So, when Han Ye saw the little girl, he could not help but smile.
