The Lycan king

Lenora, an orphaned omega, has always known her place: at the bottom of the pack, toiling away in the kitchen while enduring constant insults. Headstrong and unyielding, she often speaks up for what is right—earning her the ire of her packmates, especially the ruthless Lycan King, Jax, and his confidante, Claire. On her twenty-first birthday, Lenora’s life takes an unexpected turn when she discovers that Jax is her fated mate. But instead of joy, the revelation brings humiliation. Jax, embarrassed by their bond, demands secrecy and rejects her outright. When a cruel setup orchestrated by Claire forces Jax to banish Lenora and her closest friend, Noah, tragedy strikes, leaving Lenora shattered and determined to abandon her werewolf roots. Haunted by his actions, Jax tries to bring Lenora back, but she is no longer the omega he once disregarded. Found and manipulated by Jax's estranged brother, Luke—a vengeful outcast—Lenora must navigate a web of lies, uncovering truths about her mate and the dark secrets that threaten to tear the pack apart. As power struggles ignite and betrayal cuts deep, Lenora must rise above the chaos to protect what remains of her heart and her pack. But when love and revenge collide, will Lenora and Jax find their way back to each other, or will their bond be forever broken?

Chapter 12

*Leonora*

I hated being here. No amount of times I said it to myself, would change the fact that I was stuck here. If I didn't leave now, I would be stuck here and I know Jax would literally force the rejection out of my mouth. This afternoon was already a lot for me. I didn't know where the confidence came from and I was surprised that Jax let me walk out of his room without any punishment. Everything was weird and one question bothered my mind.

Why was he moaning my name?

There was just something about the way he called my name. I wanted to hear it again but my wolf was jealous. Why wouldn't she be? He is the man I'm meant to be with, spend the rest of my life with. Instead he was in bed with any woman. A part of me was happy because it meant that he wouldn't put all his frustrations on me but I couldn't deny the gnawing feeling of hurt that was lingering around and waiting for the right time to attack me.

"How was mansion duty?" Bethany asked as I sighed and plopped down on the seat beside her. There were still whispers around me but I was getting used to it. I just needed a break. Jax had sent the head of the mansion staff to punish me for entering his room. I tried to explain that it was based on Jax's orders but no one listened to me. I know I would be getting a query from Shirley and it annoyed the living day lights out of me.

"I hated every single moment of it. I totally forgot about Jax's rule about his room." I explained to her and she lightly smacked her head. "I have honestly learnt my lesson, I just want the punishments to stop." I said to her but there was no way she could help me. If she went and spoke to Shirley on my behalf it would seem like I knowingly entered his room and I really wanted to avoid as much trouble as possible. "I want to talk to Shirley about moving back to general pack duties."

"Are you sure that she would let you? I think they are going to keep you at the mansion for a while. I overhead Shirley talking. Jax gave strict orders and she's not going to budge. You know how she is." Bethany commented and I sighed. I needed to leave. This was like a torture ground for me. Jax was going to keep making my life worse and I was getting tired of it. "What are you going to do?"

I looked over at the long line of people waiting to get their food. An idea popped into my head. "Is the guard schedule still posted on the notice board?" I asked and she nodded causing me to nod in happiness. "I have an idea and I don't know if you'll report me."

"Why would I do that? I want to run away with you, this time around. I hate this place and I still haven't found my mate. What if he's in another pack?" Bethany explained and I nodded. I could definitely understand where she was coming from. The only thing that gave us hope was the fact that we could find our mates and leave. I remembered nights Noah, Bethany and I would stay up and talk about our dream mate. We always prayed that we would find someone who wasn't an omega. Someone that would take us our of this horrible predicament we found ourselves in. Well, it was a bit harder for Noah because he was a man.

"I don't want to leave you here but Jax is after me. Do you want to be on the run forever?" I asked and she shook her head. Bethany didn't have the grit to be on the run. She wouldn't be able to live her life looking over her shoulder. Even if she tried, there will be a day that she would slip up and that was too risky for me. I couldn't afford that right now. Not when Jax had found me. I would need to be extra cautious from now henceforth. "I'll be at the notice board. If Shirley or anyone comes looking for me, can you come and give me a heads up or something. You'll be my lookout buddy." I gave her the cutest puppy dog eyes I could think of. She scrunched her nose at me. I totally forgot that there were so many things they didn't understand.

"You look constipated." She pointed and I relaxed my face. "I'll watch out for you but please! Don't ever make that face, ever again." I stood up and gave her a small smile. I made my way out of the dining hall and sneaked over to the staff quarters. The staff quarters is usually closed during work hours because people usually snuck back into bed after our lunch break. I looked around to check if I was being watched but I didn't spot anyone.

I opened the door, entered inside and closed the door behind me. I headed straight to the notice board and searched for the guard section. My eyes spotted my name written amongst the mansion staff. It was scribbled on the paper with a scrawny handwriting. They didn't bother to even print a new list. I shook my head. I went back to looking for the guard section and I found it. I crammed all the necessary information I needed.

There was an opening right before lunch break was over. I knew I could easily sneak past the gates like I did before. This was the only available opportunity I had. I didn't want to lose it.

I took a deep breath and went to my room. I searched around the place for any sharp object to defend myself. I was not going to let the rogue wolves attack me like they did before.

I wasn't going to have a repeat of last time.
