She couldn't lose Ryan, Her only child.
…
_The Hospital_
Marium rushed through the hospital doors, her heart racing with every step. She approached the reception desk, her voice shaking.
"My daughter, Ryan Wilson, was brought in after a car accident. Can you please tell me where she is?"
The nurse's expression turned sympathetic.
"Let me check, ma'am. Ah, yes... Ryan Wilson is in the ICU. The doctor will be with you shortly to discuss her condition."
Mariam's eyes welled up with tears as she followed the nurse to the ICU waiting area. The antiseptic smell and beeping machines only heightened her anxiety.
As she waited, Mariam's mind flooded with memories of Ryan's childhood, her bright smile, and her infectious laughter. She couldn't bear the thought of losing her.
After what felt like an eternity, a doctor emerged from the ICU, his expression somber.
"Mrs. Wilson, I'm Dr. Lee, the attending physician. Ryan's injuries are severe. She has a fractured skull, broken ribs, and a punctured lung. We're doing everything we can to stabilize her, but the next 24 hours are crucial."
Mariam felt like she'd been punched in the gut. She struggled to process the doctor's words, her mind numb.
As Mariam sat in the hospital waiting area, trying to process her emotions, she noticed a police officer approaching her. "Mrs. Wilson, I'm Officer James. We're investigating the accident involving your daughter, Ryan."
Mariam's eyes narrowed. "What do you need from me?"
Officer James hesitated before speaking. "We found Ryan's phone at the accident scene. There was a text message she sent before the accident... a message that suggests she might have been distracted or upset while driving."
Mariam's curiosity was piqued. "What did the message say?"
The officer's expression turned somber. "I'm afraid it's not suitable for me to share with you directly, ma'am. But I can tell you that it was a message to someone named Albert, and it contained some disturbing content."
Mariam's eyes widened as she felt a chill run down her spine. She knew that Ryan had been dating Albert, but she had no idea they had broken up or that Ryan was so upset.
"How can I see this message?" Mariam asked, her voice firm.
Officer James nodded. "I can arrange for you to see the message, but please be prepared, ma'am. The content is disturbing."
Mariam steeled herself, knowing she had to face the truth. "I'm ready," she said.
Officer James handed Mariam a phone with the message displayed on the screen. Mariam's heart sank as she read the words:
….Albert, There's no point of living without you. This is my last words to you ever, I love you…..
Mariam felt like she'd been punched in the gut. She couldn't believe her daughter had been so distraught that she'd considered taking her own life. And the fact that Ryan had sent this message to Albert, her ex-boyfriend, made Mariam's heart ache even more.
"Why didn't she talk to me?" Mariam whispered, tears streaming down her face. "Why did she feel so alone?"
Officer James placed a gentle hand on Mariam's shoulder. "We'll investigate further, ma'am. But it's clear that Ryan was struggling with some personal demons."
Mariam's eyes narrowed, a mix of emotions swirling inside her. She felt sad, angry, and helpless all at once.
Mariam's hands trembled with rage as she dialed Albert's number. She couldn't believe the pain and suffering he had caused her daughter.
The phone rang several times before Albert's smooth voice answered. "Hello?"
Mariam's anger boiled over. "Albert, it's Mariam. Ryan's mother."
There was a pause on the other end of the line. "Oh, Mrs Wilson .. I... uh... what's going on?"
Mariam's voice rose.
"You know exactly what's going on! My daughter is lying in the hospital, fighting for her life, because of you!"
Albert's tone turned defensive. "Mariam, I don't know what you're talking about."
Mariam's anger turned to fury.
"Don't lie to me! I've seen the message Ryan sent you. The one where she said she couldn't live without you. You broke her heart, Albert, and now she's paying the price."
Albert's voice dropped to a whisper.
"Mrs Wilson , I... I had no idea... I never meant for anything like this to happen."
Mariam's tears of anger and sorrow flowed freely.
"You never meant for anything like this to happen? Are you kidding me? You're going to have to live with the consequences of your actions, Albert."
Albert's face turned pale as he remembered seeing the message from Ryan earlier that day. He had been so caught up in his own emotions and work that he had ignored it, thinking he would deal with it later.
But now, as he listened to Mariam's angry words, he realized the gravity of his mistake. He felt a wave of guilt and panic wash over him.
"I'm on my way to the hospital," Albert said, his voice shaking.
Mariam's response was icy. "See you soon, Albert."
Albert didn't waste any time. He rushed out of his house and hailed a car, his mind racing with thoughts of Ryan and what he could have done differently.
As he sped the car towards the hospital, Albert's anxiety grew. What would he say to Mariam? To Ryan, if she was even awake?
He took a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves. He knew he had to face the consequences of his actions and find a way to make things right.
The car pulled up to the hospital entrance, and Albert jumped out, his heart racing with anticipation and fear.
