Snow 1

Aldrin steadied himself. With the killing machine in hand, his eyes narrowed as he locked sight on his targets. Crouching behind the small ridge of snow that served as his only cover and protection, his breathing slowed. Only taking the most shallow of breaths to not reveal himself. His padded leather armor blended into the snow perfectly. He had had a long time to perfect it, after all. He scanned through the approaching enemies. They were over three meters tall, reptilian in nature, and hosted advanced weapons and armor. Their armor was metallic and mostly silver in color. The only exception to this was the dark red visor in their helmets.

Aldrin surveyed for a minute longer, before removing himself from his sniper position. Now leaning against his cover, facing away from the enemy, he propped his sniper rifle next to him on the ground and removed a piece of paper from within an armor pocket. Opening it, a map was revealed. It was a worn-out piece and covered with red lines that tracked from place to place across the map. Finding his position, he was right next to one of the lines.

He put the map away and took out his radio. Fiddling with it for a moment, a strange static-like noise emitted from the device. "Lieutenant Aldrin to HQ, repeat Lieutenant Aldrin to HQ," a response soon returned. "HQ to Lieutenant Aldrin, report."

Aldrin quickly replied, "enemy unit spotted in sector N-197.56. Suspected scout squadron." "Size?" "Standard." He replied before continuing, "Permission to engage?" The radio went silent.

Aldrin leaned back against the snow - his cover - and looked up at the sky. The overcast of clouds dimmed the usually bright snow. He began to silently mumble with an aggrieved expression. 'Come on, let me kill them.' His response came sooner than he thought. "Granted," the operator said, "Give 'em hell." Aldrin grinned. Grabbing his rifle, Aldrin propped himself up in position and again narrowed his eyes. He didn't have a scope - too many had died that way - but he didn't need it. The distance was a little too close for his liking, but he wasn't in any position to complain.

Unable to determine their superior officer, the bastards had learned too quickly, he readied himself to fire.

Distance - Little over a kilometer

Wind - Nearly nonexistent

Obstacles - None

Enemy Numbers - Group of twelve

Light -… It was too dark

They'd be able to spot him near instantly. The first shot would be fine, the second if he was fast, but by the third, they'd already be closing in on him. He wouldn't be able to kill them all before they reached him. This normally wouldn't have been much of a problem if he were with his team. Things, however, were no longer 'normal,' if you could ever even call it that. Lining up down the sights, his finger slowly squeezed the trigger.

Aldrin fired. It shattered the silent atmosphere of the snowy valley in an instant, and the bullet descended upon his enemies. Shattering the visor of one of their helmets, a giant reptilian collapsed to the ground.

Aldrin was quick on the reload

The reptilians were quicker, though

Without a word, they scattered and ran to anything that could serve as cover. Snow, rocks, trees, one even shielded himself behind his fallen comrade. The Second bullet ripping through the air hit nothing but snow.

'Shit,' Aldrin moved to reload. The second he prepped to fire, though, he ducked down under cover. Not a second later, blue beams of light exploded all around him. Some blasted into his cover, others went over his head and rained snow down onto him.

He had to be fast

He got up in sniping position. Not the hidden behind cover like before, but clearly in his enemy's view. Now on top of his cover, Aldrin could see that they'd had trudged through almost 100 meters of snow in the near five seconds he had ducked down. Another bullet barreled down upon them and Aldrin had another to add to his tally.

The Reptilians were weaving through the deep snow with incredible ease. However, Aldrin didn't have time to grumble about the unfairness of life as blue lights were gathering at the ends of their weapons. He didn't duck. It was a gamble, but one he was more than willing to take. His reload was faster this time. He stood deliberately tall and aimed.

The Reptilians didn't stop to aim - or rather they couldn't afford to - and both sides fired again. Aldrin could feel the heat as blue bright bursts of light rocketed over his head and exploded behind him.

Another Reptilian fell

Aldrin reloaded. The shiny, advanced, and powerful laser weapons had only one weakness. Aldrin fired. They took too long to fire. Still advancing and using cover, the Reptilians' weapons began to glow again.

Aldrin reloaded

The Reptilians aimed

Aldrin finally dived back into cover as blasts of light rained down upon him. The shots were more accurate. None had gone flying over his head, and most had smashed into the increasing thin layer of protection, stopping Aldrin from getting blasted into pieces.

Already having reloaded, Aldrin quickly popped up and fired again.

'Five'

He reloaded, took another shot, and ducked down into cover as another barrage battered his cover. He had spotted something as he fired his last shot, however.

He loaded another bullet into his rifle and took a quick glance before ducking back down again. Another barrage rattled around him. It was weaker this time.

"Come on, faster!"

He popped up quickly, shot, and ducked down as a second weaker barrage rained more snow down on him.

Reloading as fast as he could, Aldrin was about to take another shot when more blue lasers exploded around him.

The Reptilians had split their firing times in two. One group fired while the other charged. Another reptilian fell as Aldrin fired again.

There were only 6 Reptilians remaining

Aldrin reloaded

The Reptilians fired

Aldrin fired and ducked

The other three fired

Aldrin reloaded

Aldrin fired and ducked

The Reptilians …

Aldrin…
