'Darkness?' Max asked himself. It was the first time he heard about this so-called Darkness element.
Looking at Max, Eva saw that he was deeply confused so began explaining to him calmly through her excited voice.
"Darkness is a mutant element and it's extremely rare! It is so rare that it isn't even classified as an element and only a few people in the world have it!" Eva explained briefly.
"Mutant element?" Max asked even more confused than before.
"Oh right, you have yet to join a Magic Academy... think of it like this, there are the primordial elements: earth, water, wind, and fire. Then there are variants such as metal, gold, holy water, and another rare element which is rarely seen poison. But there are many others, not just these ones alright?" She took a deep breath then continued.
"Mutant elements are elements that don't really take part in the primordial element scheme such as thunder, ice, your element which is darkness, and quite a few more. They are special and normally more powerful than the primordials but they are harder to study and Darkness element Magicians would be creating their own magic powers instead of learning as the others do. It is that rare!" She was talking fast and without a break which made her cough as her neck dried from all the speaking.
After coughing a few times she regained her composure then continued.
"This pretty much sums it up, you can become a great Magician or not even take the path of a Magician, the choice is yours but also your hard work and merits. For someone special like you I have to say though, good luck and I hope to hear news of you soon" With those last words Max wasn't allowed to ask anything, the door opened behind him which he understood was the sign that told him that he should leave.
"Thank you..." Max said before turning around walking out of the room.
Everyone had finished awakening and as they were escorted down the stairs by the maid once again.
"Now that everyone has finished you should go back into your respective carriages and wait for me, I will have something to do for a few minutes." Eric said while beginning to walk towards the stairs, the maid didn't escort him or anything, she just went back to where she was standing when Max and the others went inside.
Max, Ken, and Rya were all inside their carriages when Ken began talking.
"This is bullshit!" Ken said out loud, it seems he was more angry than sad, he was advancing quickly through the stages of grief.
"Like for real? I have worked so hard just to not have any element awaken? I even waited... And how does Rya get such a great element... and you Max! What element did you awaken?" Ken talked on and on. It was true, he wasn't idling in these past two years, he had an impressive amount of spunk in him which lead him to not give up no matter how harsh the training was, he had plenty of combat experience and had great combat sense, life wasn't always fair.
"I'm not telling you for now, but let's just say that it might be more annoying than even having an element..." Max admitted, he didn't know what to do with this so-called Darkness element.
"But you still got one!" Ken said in anger.
"Alright Ken just stop now, you know you don't need any awakened magic element to be strong, there are tons of other stuff that can help you get strong, you are ruining my mood now..." Rya said. She was extremely excited about her Ice Elemental Awakening, she wanted to try it out as soon as she could but she had to get home at least.
"Let's talk about it later for real Ken, we get hope and you can vent it all away but now we are stuck inside this place so it doesn't get any better but it gets worse..." Max added, the truth was he wanted to think about his path as a magician, having Ken in the background just yelling and maybe even throwing profanities wasn't an ideal thinking place.
Ken seeing that he was outnumbered backed down, for now. He didn't want to get others mad, he wanted just to vent his pent up anger.
Max closed his eyes trying to concentrate on his thoughts alone but then the voice of a child was heard. 'Darkness element, isn't it awesome?!' It was Matt and he was really joyful about this.
'Why are you so excited? Didn't you hear what Eva said? It is a lot more bothersome than other elements' Max replied quite annoyed to Matt.
'Didn't you forget something? I am a Darkness element weapon! I can help you during your training and even fighting, I am so excited! Isn't it cool to have the same elements?' He was as carefree as ever, ever since Max contracted him he never showed any signs of elemental attack so he didn't put his hopes up when it came to his training alongside Matt.
The road home felt even longer and tedious than before thanks to everyone being so excited. They all wanted to get home faster and it felt like torture waiting inside the carriage.
Enduring the torture which was the road home, Max talked with Matt the whole time which brought his anxiousness down a little. From what he was informed by Matt, having the same elemental awakening as a Cursed or Blessed Item means that the elemental affinity is even stronger, which is always a good thing.
They have reached their home when the moon began to rise in the sky, but as promised Ken began venting himself at them and after a while he finally calmed down.
'I thought he wasn't going to stop until the sun rose back up...' Max was tired from all the blabbering Ken did which was to be expected, both he and Rya were now on their way home with headaches.
He opened the door to his home and could see his mother and father sitting at the table with warm food beside them. 'They haven't eaten yet...' Max thought apologetically while fastening his pace to get to the table alongside his parents faster.
"I am sorry for making you wait for me..." He apologized but he didn't get the 'Don't be sorry' speech he was accustomed to.
His father broke into a healthy laugh while hitting the table in front of him.
"Hahaha! Is this some kind of joke? You have awakened an element from what I can feel, I may not be the best but I can at least sense magic power in beginners like you who can't hide it! Congratulations son, eat how much you want!" Igor said proudly. Neither he nor Amaya had awakened an element and normally the parents were also reasons for elemental awakening. This was the reason they were ready to get Max to feel better if he didn't awaken anything, but he did.
"Congratulations Max!" Amaya said with a smile on her face, she wasn't sure if he awakened an element or not, she wasn't a veteran in fighting as her husband, but she didn't want to make Max think that she was more confident in him not awakening than being able to. Igor's remark was a saver for her to say the least.
"Thanks!" Max felt shocked but he soon regained his composure, he sit down and began eating alongside his parents, telling them what happened.
