Shadow Slave: Reborn As The Shadow Monarch

A short-looking young man with pale skin and dark hair was standing at the entrance of a police station. His face was filled with great contemplation as he stared at the entrance, plundering his next step.

It has been ten years since I had reincarnated in Sunless body, I had prepared to the best of my ability, and looking down on my body gone is the frail-looking kid I transmigrated into my body or should I say sunless body is now toned with tight muscle I now look like a short track and field athletes, in the 10 years that I have become sunless I had trained my body hard pushing the already malnourished body to the very limit, I mainly focused on run, calisthenics, striking with a knife and slashing piercing guarding with a heavy metal rod I found at the outskirts. I did a profound and comprehensive research to prepare myself for this day that I have been dreading and expecting.

Am I going to survive my first nightmare? Is it going to be the same nightmare as Sunny? Am I even in the same police station that Sunny used? It would be unfortunate to miss Master Jet. A series of thoughts was going through my mind at this moment. I had to push all the thoughts to the back of my mind to clear my mind. 

''What is the worst that can happen? I have already died once. ''

The young man finally got the courage to take the first step slowly approaching the building, 'I still can't believe am in this nightmare-infested world on the bright side if I survive I get cool powers although the Shadow Slave Divine Aspect would be a problem to me I don't want to be anybody's slave I'll rather have another aspect' the young man thought as he entered the police station 'i still can't remember how i died which was funny to me because i have always been hunted by death before i was born, it started with placenta wrapped around my neck during my birth to the nursery i was kept catching on fire to multiple car accidents, bike accident, train derailing, ceiling fan fall on my head to getting shot multiple times even when i wasn't the on the gun was pointed at to a plane crashing into my house and many accidents i miraculously survived but couldn't survive what finally killed me i guess my luck ran out'

Almost reaching an officer on duty the youth still in his thoughts 'All I remember was walking home after being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer of the lungs even though I haven't smoked a day in my life, I faintly remember a house burning on my way home that all I can recall.'

''Was it Truck-kun? Did he finally get to me after missing me seven times''

''Are you lost kid and who the fuck is Truck-kun?''

Breaking the young man out of his thoughts, the officer asked with visible displeasure written over his face as he stared at the absent-minded youth.

''AHEM'' The young man cleared his throat trying to sound mature. 

''I am here to surrender myself to you as a carrier of the Nightmare Spell as demanded by the Third Special Directive.'' I hope I said that correctly the young man thought to himself.

The officer's expression instantly changed from displeasure to cautiousness as he stared intensely at the youth before asking him a series of questions.

Are you sure you are infected? When did you start noticing the symptoms?"

Sunny shrugged.

"A week ago?"

The officer became visibly paler.

''Fuck! It just had to be when I am on duty.''

Then, with a hurried motion, he pressed a button on his terminal and Shouted:

"Attention! Code Black in the lobby! I repeat! CODE BLACK!"

[Exposition for new reader Ctrl+V]The Nightmare Spell first appeared in the world a few decades ago. Back then, the planet was just starting to recover from a series of devastating natural disasters and subsequent resource wars.

At first, the emergence of a new disease that caused millions of people to complain about constant fatigue and sleepiness did not attract a lot of attention. But when they started to fall into an unnatural slumber, with no sign of waking up even days later, governments finally panicked. Of course, by then it was already too late — not that an early response could have made any difference.

When the infected started dying in their sleep, their dead bodies turning into monsters, no one was ready. Nightmare Creatures quickly overwhelmed national militaries, plunging the world into complete chaos.

No one knew what the Spell was, what powers it possessed, and how to fight it.

In the end, it was the Awakened — those who survived the first trials of the Spell and came back alive — who put a stop to its rampage. Armed with miraculous abilities earned in their Nightmares, they restored peace and created a semblance of a new order.

It's been a few minutes, the officers moved the young man to what looks like the station's basement they were currently fixing different restraints on his body fastening his body to bed, and a look of nervousness was written all over their faces.

''Do I get a safe word?'' The young man remarked, trying to cut the tension but it didn't work taking a deep yawn! he noticed a middle-aged officer entering the basement and heading directly toward him.

''How are you feeling son?''

''I have been better.'' the boy replied, a little uncomfortable about being called son by the policeman he added: ''It's Sunless by the way.''

''What?'' the officer asked confusedly.

''That's my name but you can call me Sunny.'' 

''What kind of strange name is Sunless?''

''I know it's a strange name, but I don't mind it.'' Sunny answered yawning.

Changing the question the policeman asked:

''Have you contacted your family or do you need me to contact them for you?''

"I don't have any family." Sunny said with a sad expression written over his drowsy face.

"Oh sorry to hear that." The cop replied pitifully l.

"With all due respect sir I don't need our pity' all I need are advise that can help me survive my nightmare right now because I don't think i can keep myself awake much longer." Sunny remarked while forcing his eyes to stay open.

"Alright Sunless how long can you stay awake"

"What?" Sunny ask groggily as he struggles to stay awake.

"Don't fall asleep kid I haven't talked you through the procedure yet try to say awake." The policeman bellowed trying to keep Sunny awake but it didn't work as the young man strapped onto the bed has fallen asleep.

"Fuck"

Was the last thought going through Sunny's mind has everything went black.

And then, in the darkness, a faintly familiar voice rang:
