I. hate. everything. My life was so simple. I had good friends, a good school, and a good life. But all that changed when my father got promoted. He was transferred to New York City. Hundreds of miles away from my hometown. I have no choice but to go with him. My mother died when I was very young. I never really knew her. My father is a bigwig at a tech corporation so I don't really know him either. I was raised by nannies and maids. But now that all changes. When we got to the apartment in Manhattan all I could feel was out of place. I have to start private school tomorrow. I just wish my friends were here too. I'm all alone now.
As I lay in my bed, all I can think about is Audrey, my mother. I was named after her. She was so beautiful. I wish I knew her. Walking into the school I feel so different than everybody else. I'm being stared at and I know it. I've never been the new girl so this is going to take some getting used to. My first class is English. Easy enough. Room 201 with Miss Rains. I sit down and immediately a girl starts talking to me. "Hey! You're new aren't you?" "Umm yeah." I say. "Well, my name is Katie! Nice to meet you!" "Nice to meet you too Katie I'm Audrey." I say timidly. "Ooooh Audrey! That's pretty name!" The bell rings and I sigh with relief. That was a lot for the first 2 minutes but I think I might be able to make a friend!
Miss Rains walks in. She's middle age with a pencil in her hair. She starts doing roll call. "Sam?" "Here" "Raelin" "Here" and the list goes on. Until, she reaches my name. "Audrey?" "Here" I say. She seemed surprised. "Well class, looks like we have a new student! Audrey would you come up here please?" I've never been more anxious in my life. "So Audrey" Miss Rains says "Where are you from?" "Umm I'm from Ohio" I say "Very nice" she says. I take my seat again and move on into the class. As I look around the classroom to get a feel for things I notice the boy sitting across from me staring. He's very cute. As I looked up he whipped his head back down. "Strange" I think to myself.
The day goes on, more classes more introductions. Katie and I say our goodbyes. I think I have a friend now so I've started to warm up to this school. As I walk out the front doors of St. Ellen's school, I'm stopped by the same boy from English class. "Hi, I'm Jake" He says. "Hey, I know you. You sit across from me in my English class." "Yeah!" He says. Then out of nowhere he says " So can I walk you home?" "Sure!" I say desperate to make friends. I asked "So what do kids do for fun around here?" "They party." He says. "Anything else?" "Well not much except for going to Times Square and stuff." "Oh, I'm not really into partying. " I say. "Same here." Jake says. " I don't really see what's so fun about it. " We reach my apartment building a luxury high rise. "Do you want to come in?" I ask "I would but I really have to get home, but thanks anyways. Maybe another time." He says. "yeah maybe another time" I say.
The next day at school I see Katie standing at the door. "Hi Katie!" I say "Hey Audrey!" We both have the same study hall first so we start talking. I decide to ask her about Jake since I don't really know him. "So Katie, what do you know about Jake?" "Jake? Oh he's like the quietest most popular guy in school! Every girl tries to talk to him or get with him but no ones ever been able to crack him." "Really!" I say "He seemed really nice yesterday! I would never think he was quiet or popular." I say "yesterday?" She asks "Yeah! He walked me home yesterday and we talked about almost everything under the sun." I say. "You mean to tell me, that Jake the guy that never talks to girls let alone notices one asked, to walk you home!" Katie says excitedly. "Yeah I guess." Right as I was about to say something another girl walks over.
"Hi! I'm Abby!" She says excitedly "umm Hi I'm Audrey." "So! I heard you talking about Jake! Just to let you know he's mine and don't go anywhere near him. Thanks!" She walked away. "Ugh!" Katie says "She's so full of herself!" "Wait I thought you said no girl has ever gotten with Jake?" "Yeah no one has but Abby basically reserved him for herself but everyone knows he doesn't like her." "Oh." I say. "You're like the chosen one!" Katie says. "Wha— what do you mean?" I ask "I mean that Jake has never looked at a girl let alone walked one home, so he definelty likes you." "You think so?" I ask. " Absolutely!" It's only my second day of school and now I've already made a friend, An enemy and a guy likes me.
Now I don't know what to do! I mean Jake seems like a great guy but, I don't really know him and I don't want to feel the wrath of Abby. But, at the same time a super cute guy that has never talked to another girl likes me and I might like him back but I don't know yet! "Uggh! I say to myself. "This is so stressful!" I walk into school the next day and head to Miss Rains class. I don't know what to expect. I sit down and notice Jake isn't here yet but the bell doesn't ring for another 3 minutes so it doesn't bother me. Katie's there though so I start up a conversation with her and as the bell rings, Jake hurried into the classroom and sits down. "Hey Jake!" I say. "Hey Audrey!" He says back. As he said that it felt like a million mouths had dropped in the room around us.
Before the murmuring could start, Miss Rains walked in. With the same blouse and pencil in her bun. Class continues on and I notice Jake getting uncomfortable and I ask "what's wrong" He replies "I just really don't get the concept of this assignment." "Well can I help?" I ask "Sure! I could use all the help I can get." "Okay, when we're you thinking?" I ask "After school?" "Sure!" School drones on finally the dismissal bell rings and we're free. I wait at the front of the school and sure enough here comes Jake. "He's so tall!" I think. "So where do you want to study?" I ask. "Umm anywheres fine." He replies. " Okay how about my place?" "Sure!"
