Arriving At The Kobold Village

The kobold trio and Matthew are currently walking through the forest in a direction where Matthew had never been to before. It was the direction Matthew was supposed to explore if he didn't decide to suddenly mess with the bear and leave his body to an unideal state for exploring.

The only thing that made Matthew decide to go anyways is because he was still capable of doing some stunts like swinging from the trees to get himself to safety.

'Thank the bearded God that the wolf's aura ability didn't have any backlashes that weakened my body after activating it. If that was the case then that would surely cause a lot of problems in the future such as this instance where my body was quite sore all over, but I still need to endure it for a little while longer until I reach the kobold's village.'

"Speaking of which, is it still far away?"

"No big brother, the village is in that direction." The first kobold said while pointing with its finger.

"We still can't see it yet because the tall trees and huge bushes are blocking the way, but it's only a few hundred steps away from here."

"Okay." Matthew nodded and kept on walking behind the kobold trio.

While the four of them are walking together, Matthew chatted with them, talking about the village's condition and the kobolds in general. The kobolds trio believed that Matthew was a kobold from some other village that decided to wander outside his own village and travel. Although Matthew's appearance was quite a rare sight for them since Matthew didn't have any fur like them and instead was covered in scales, they just thought that there are many kinds of kobolds.

Moreover, Matthew could speak their language, so why should they suspect that Matthew was actually a little cold-blooded lizard that had a wolf's head and crocodile scutes.

Matthew had also asked about how long the kobolds had been living there and why there are only a hundred or so of them. Matthew then finds out that the kobold's lifespan is not that long if they failed to evolve further after reaching level 10 and that is the case for most kobolds. The first kobold's grandfather is one of the rare exceptions that have evolved again since he reached level 10 and is the oldest kobold in the village currently.

Matthew also asked about the humans that attacked them. Matthew finds out that the humans in this world still used swords and arrows to fight which is a very good news for Matthew since if they ever used guns or cannons then it means that it would be very troublesome to deal with them if he ever had to clash with them head-on.

But that doesn't mean that Matthew had any plans to just make enemies and mess with the humans, he still hoped that he could befriend them since he was an ex-human himself which should be a plus point if he wanted to be friends with them.

The humans had also attacked the kobolds in waves and used the hit and run tactic to tire the kobolds up before doing their real attack. Of course, the kobolds children didn't know what is a hit-and-run tactic and Matthew had concluded them on his own after hearing the first kobold's story.

On the first day of the attack, a few numbers of humans had come on horseback to shoot arrows at them before retreating when the kobolds decided to chase them out.

And they would repeatedly do it until the kobolds were pissed off they decided to run them down but only to be ambushed by the humans from all sides and thus defeating a lot of the kobolds without much effort. That first day was the most fatal damage that the kobold village had taken and many kobold warriors were taken down that day.

During the second day and third day, which is this morning, the humans had come from a few directions to skirmish the village and taken out more kobolds in the process. And being a smart kobold child, the first kobold realizes that their village won't hold out much longer and decides to seek help. Any help possible including asking the so-called 'dangerous beast' that his grandfather had told him before.

Matthew concluded after hearing the first kobold's story that the humans are not as advantageous as he thought they would be. Looking at the humans' tricky strategy to deal with the kobolds, that means that they didn't have an overwhelming strength to end the kobolds in one sweep and had to resort to using ambushes and hit and run strategies to weaken the kobolds slowly.

And if that's the case, then the first's kobold prediction might be true that the kobold village didn't have much time left because there is a high chance that the humans will finally attack them using their full strength now that the kobold's strength has been dwindled by more than half and the humans could ensure their victory in one swoop.

'It won't be that easy if their army is all gathering together, but as long as they don't have the capabilities to see through my invisibility then it shouldn't be too hard to scare them away.'

Matthew was still worried about the actual strength of the humans and if they would have ways to counter his invisibility or not. And there's also the chance that the humans were strong enough to repel his claws attacks and Matthew could only damage them by using the wolf's aura ability just like when he fought the bear.

But that was unlikely to happen since the bear was supposed to be the 'strong and dangerous' beast that needed at least 10 kobold warriors to defeat. And according to the kobold kid, the kobold warriors are at least strong enough that the humans can't afford to face head-on, thus why they lured them into a trap and attacked them from all sides.

'But I still need to confirm all this with the adults of the village though, no matter how smart the first kobold kid is, I think that hearing the actual condition directly from his grandpa is the wisest decision to know the humans and the kobolds strength"

But in the end, Matthew thought that there's no good in worrying too much about stuff that he couldn't predict. So he just put those worrying thoughts aside for now and he would just confirm them later when he actually meets the first kobold kid grandfather.

"Big brother, we've almost arrived. The village is over there!"

Matthew then looks in the direction where the first kobold kid pointed and he finally sees a small settlement with crude wooden walls surrounding the village.

Matthew could also see that the buildings inside the village are made out of mostly wood and branches that were tied together using vines and other rope-looking things that bind the structure together.

This is the first time Matthew had seen a civilization in this new world, and it wasn't really what he expected them to be. It is not something that he could marvel at, but it was quite exciting to be finally able to meet a society rather than living in the lawless forest, so Matthew was actually quite excited to meet the other kobolds inside the village.

As they walked closer to the village, Matthew could finally see there were kobolds walking around the perimeter of the village on high alert.

'Whew, they looked very busy. But it should have been like this since the humans had attacked them for three consecutive days, if they're lax then that would be weird.'

The kobolds that were patrolling around the village are a little bit different from the kobold children trio. They are of course taller and bigger than the kids, but their eyes also looked sharper just like the wolves. Their claws also looked bigger and tougher, and they are similar in size to Matthew's own claws that he got from the wolves.

When Matthew and the kids finally got close enough, the kobolds that were patrolling the area finally noticed them and ran over to them.

'Well let's see how this goes.'
