Rachel couldn't deny she was nervous on the first day of school. She had done her best to catch up so she wouldn't be too far behind everyone else but that wasn't what she was worried about. She was afraid of being alone in a sea of people without anyone to trust.
If she was scared, she wouldn't be able to hold anyone's hand. All she could do was clutch the necklace she kept tucked under her shirt with her dad's wedding ring on it.
It wasn't quite the same as having Lala but it was still comforting having something to fiddle with. She hoped her dad was watching over her today and could help her get through this because she suddenly didn't want to go to school at all.
Her mom had walked her all the way there and she looked up at the building looming before her in trepidation, holding her hand ever tighter. Did she really have to do this?
Rachel had wanted to go to school but she didn't want to be apart from her mom. This place was big and scary.
