House Torment

Jonny has only one wish and that is a wish for things to get back as the way things were some hours ago. He wished for his parents to come back and console his weary soul for what was happening was more than he can take in. When are these going to be over, what is going to happens the following day? Jonny had things running through his mind.

He thought how the following day is going to be like being that his parents are not at home, and he had no idea where they are. He walked to the bedroom with two flashlights in his hand making sure that he lights every corner and hidden place like behinds the couch, bellow the table to make sure that there is nothing suspicious on those places. As he walked to the bedroom, he thought how his life would have been without those flashlights.

That make him flashback the last time they went to camp with his parents. The family had planned for the trip two months earlier and the purpose of the trip was to take time off from their daily activities to recharge their health. Being that they have a family business, it was easy for them to request for time out and leaves the business to be managed by their employees for the duration they are away.

They planned to go up country to their cabin which was by the river side. It is a three bedroom, a small room as a store, kitchen and with a spacious living room fitted with beautiful wooden chairs and a table big enough to accommodate at least eight people while dining.

On the far end of the living there is a fireplace that is very attractive. It is fitted with chimney which is visible from outside for the purpose of channeling the smoke outside the house. The floor is skillfully plastered, and the wall of the house is made of strong timbers all around.

The kitchen is furnished with various modern equipment with a fresh water tap that has never failed to supply water only when there is faulty with water supply system. From the outside the house is just another ordinary house build with timbers and roofed with iron sheet same as many other cabin within the region. But upon entering the house is when you can actually get to appreciate the beauty it possess. It is ideal place to be at.

They always go there during winter break to have some family time and disconnect form the outside world for some time. The tour to up country always proves to be vital for them and Jonny specifically like it. Whenever they are there, he always goes fishing with his dad which is the practices he loves most. Also, going there means he will be out of school for sometimes which he never likes anyway reason being that in his school there is a group of his mates who likes to bully him anytime teacher is not around.

On the river side they remove their belongings from the van and as usual and pack them in the house. Dust off dust from all the surfaces in the house, had the cobwebs removed and clean the inside the house and around the house outside and collect messes and burn them. They then changed the beddings from the two beds that of Jonny's and the one of master bedroom for his parents. Jonny's mother remained while washing the utensils as Jonny and his dad went to fish in the river for their supper.

There at the river bank their boat is tied at on the bridge. That boat together with the cabin is dad inherited from his grandfather who also inherited from his great grandfather. And so, it has been there in the family line over the generations.

The house is only renovated when there somewhere needed to be renovated or when the current owner of the house has a different taste and wish to make some changes in the house but the only thing that has been maintained over the ages is the architectural design of the house. For his family and ancestry they are known to be superstitious people.

They have a belief that the house is of a blessing because it is the house of their ancestors which has been passed over the year and will be continued to be owned with the generation to come. Being that that place is their ancestral ground. Any member of the family who inherited the house has an outermost respect for it. That is why no one ever dare to change the tradition structure of the house.

But that day they were not going to use the boat for fishing. Instead, they sat on the bridge, draws their fishing lines fix the baits and start fishing. It was already getting late, so they only manage to catch two fish which was enough for supper. If it was not late, they could have continue catching fish and the return them to the water just for fun. But that day they were already exhausted from the long journey and the chores they have done some hours earlier drain them completely.

That night they have supper and went straight to bed. There was no story telling as a family which is norm way after dinner. His dad adds some logs into the fire chamber and left them to burn over night to keep the house warm. It was not normal for the family to go to bed without creating time for story but that night they were exhausted and have to make it to bet early.

The following morning, they wake up had their breakfast and set out for hunting. They are to go for camping at night and being that they had fish for previous supper. They decided to change their die to a wild meat. So, they set their target to be either Hare or Squirrel for Deer was too big for three people.

For all the activities they always do as a family this is the one her mother enjoy most. Her mother was an expert in handling guns. This skill she acquired in her time in force. She joined navy academy after her high school and gave her service to the country for until the time she met Jonny's father. After getting married she decided to quit forces and focus on helping her husband manage the family business.

Over her time in navy, her shooting skill evolve greatly, and these were the reason she was so much into hunting. Jonny's father always make fun of her that the reason she loves hunting and shooting wild deer and hare is because he snatches her early from the force when her time was not over, and she now go hunting to quench her thirst of being away from service, which was not far from the truth.
