Chapter 49 : Preliminary 3

The next matches were also exciting, the the fight between Rock Lee and Kankuro was Lee Won. 

Maybe the most awaited fight was coming.

The fight between Sasuke Uchiha and Gaara of the Sand. 

This is a fight which everyone wanted to see in the finals of the chunin exam. But this time around, This fight happened much earlier and no one gonna stop the fight this time around.

But unlike how Shikamaru thought that the fight would be very interesting. 

It was not, in fact, it was a total disaster for the emo Uchiha. 

After all, tricks are just tricks, what fire ball jutsu and normal Sharingan. Against a Jinchuriki those are nothing. 

In the end, Sasuke ended up injured pretty badly. 

Shikamaru although a little bumped out at how the situation played out, wasn't surprised. He knew that this would be the outcome. 

 In fact, he was very much on attention to take action anytime if needed to save Sasuke. 

Maybe the only good thing was that he wasn't as bad of a condition as Lee was in the anime. 

Shikamaru at this was more and more worried about what gonna happen in the final. Before it was only one monster he had to look out for. Gaara.

Now there is also Lee.

After that lazy Medic Nin finally acted and took Sasuke to hospital. 

The next round was between Ino and Temari. 

This was actually quite an interesting fight. Ino was learning hard under Kurenai but that wasn't for long. 

On the other hand, Temari always took her training seriously. 

The match started and Temari took the initiative to attack first. 

Shikamaru had to say that in only a few weeks Ino has come a long way. She hung in there even when Temari was blasting her with her wind Jutsu. 

At first, Ino tried to target Temari with her mind transfer Jutsu but that didn't work.

Low-level Genjutsu didn't work either. Temari was able to spot the Genjutsu almost instantly and break it. 

This is the kind of skill one develops after working for years. 

Ultimately though.

Temari got Ino. 

Shikamaru really wanted to believe that Ino could win, she was working really hard this day but Against Temari. Her chances of winning were low. 

This is after all no longer the silly anime but reality. And Temari has been training seriously for years. Catching up to her in just a few months is not possible. 

Maybe if your name starts wth Uchiha or Senju or even maybe Uzumaki. But otherwise, forget it. 

Shikamaru here though doesn't even realize that he himself has caught up with geniuses like them in just a few months.

Ultimately Temari Won.

Next match was Hinata vs Tenten. 

This match unlike how Shikamaru though, wasn't boring at all.

Hinata of all people took charge and go on aggressive at the the start. 

And damn girl really won. 

Block Tenten's chakra points before she could even have a counter measure ready.

Damn.

Maybe that training and counselling really worked out for her.

Choji vs Shino. 

Let cut this was short. 

Shino Won. 

Choji was actually quite good but the match-up was bad for him. Choji was just wasn't agile enough to catch up with Shino while Shino's insects were able to suck Choji's chakra lowly until he fall.

And finally, this was here. 

His own fight against Neji. 

Neji was another genius whom he wanted to avoid but just couldn't. He was even wondering whether he should just give up right now.

At least this time around he wasn't pushed by Naruto. That's a relief. 

As Shikamaru lazily walked up to the fighting stadium, he wondered how to beat Neji. Close combat is completely out of line. 

So the only way to handle this is to snipe him from far. Capturing him from far will be very hard. Considering how skilled the bastard is. 

'Hmm,' 

As soon as the battle started, the first thing Neji did was to close the gap. Just as Shikamaru was aspecting.

He didn't give any time to
