Chapter 20

The forest became even more difficult to maneuver through. The continuous shaking of the ground made it too unstable. Especially with tree roots as thick as an average person's waist.

Fares, who never did any kind of sports, found it extremely difficult to outrun whatever abomination that was following it.

Thud~ Thud~

He could even hear his heart beating in his chest. Feeling the adrenaline in his body, he runs even faster with the help of his heightened perception.

However, amidst all of this, his brain kept making calculations of where to go next and where could he possibly escape to.

He was desperate for a perfect solution, but there wasn't, so he could only adopt the second-best option.

He stopped in his tracks panting and climbed up the nearest tree. Of course, just climbing a tree wasn't his plan but just a step in it.

Using the thick tree branches as a stepping stone, Fares continued to run forwards. Finally, he found what he was looking forward to.

He used the height of the trees to have a higher ground where he could have a wider view of the surroundings. In particular, what was up another tree.

Fares stopped at a tree branch, cut off some of its tough leaves with his sword, then jumped one branch up and hid in a hole made in the tree by some animal.

Then he covered the entrance with the leaves, leaving just one tiny hole where he could see the surroundings.

During all the shaking and quaking of the earth, Fares noticed that the trees were solid as if they were made out of metal, totally not affected by it.

He thought if the ground was shaking it was not safe. As for the sky, it was not like he could fly anyway, even if he could, he wouldn't try his luck with those scary flying creatures.

So his best option was inside a tree, but he couldn't see anything from the ground, so he had to climb up. Of course, he was scared that whatever made this hole in the sturdy tree would come back, but he was out of options.

The hole wasn't small, it was twice the size of the regular treehouse with a few claw marks here and there.

Calming himself down by taking deep breaths, Fares held his sword tightly in his hands.

The shaking was coming closer and closer. When it finally stopped, Fares could hear loud menacing breathing from outside the tree hole he was in.

Fares then peeped through the hole between the leaves and was shocked by what he saw.

It was a monstrous figure that he knew well. Almost everyone from modern Earth knew well. It was Tyrannosaurus Rex.

However, it was different from the T. rex he knows on Earth. The normal T. rex averaged about 6 meters in height, but this one reached where he was on the top of the 50 meters tall tree. Fares deduced it to be 47 meters high.

Its eyes were blood red and its teeth were gigantic, each measuring at least 2 meters in length.

Fares almost lost it, he was too close for his liking. If the T. rex turned his head even slightly, he figured he would be spotted by those soul-piercing eyes.

Taking more slow deep breaths, Fares calmed down even more to the point that his heart rate dropped too much if he had a physical body he would be thought of as dead.

Getting in position holding his sword with two hands and placing it in front of him. He put one leg slightly behind him and bent his knees.

However, before he could move any more, the T. rex noticed something moving below it and decided to chase after.

When it was far enough, Fares let out a sigh of relief and dropped to the ground. To achieve that degree of calmness, he burned out his brainpower.

'What the hell is a T. rex doing here? Its habitat is far away in the opposite direction' Fares wondered.

'Whatever happened, I have to thank whatever it was chasing for saving my life.' Fares thought praying that whatever it was, it was safe.

Fares had enough tension for this morning, so he laid against the wall and closed his eyes.

After an unknown amount of time had passed, Fares woke up from the sound of rustling coming from the cave entrance.

He quickly grabbed his sword, infused it with energy, and got ready to fight whatever it was.

However, when the leaves fell, and he saw what was standing in front of him, he was confused.

It had big round pair of eyes, fluffy round ears, and tails. Yes tails, as in three tails. It had two extremely sharp front teeth and five pairs of claws.

The creature tilted its head to the side, confused by the weird creature inside its home.

Fares was dumbstruck at the cute fat beast in front of him. It looked like a squirrel, more precisely Pteromys momonga or the Japanese Dwarf Flying Squirrel.

The only difference was that this one was 3 meters tall, totally blocking Fares' way out.

He didn't even know what an animal like that was doing here, but looking at its teeth and claws, Fares knew that in this small space he had no chance of winning.

The squirrel took a few steps forward towards Fares. Alarmed, he tightened his grip on the hilt of the sword and took a fighting position.

Different from his expectations though, the squirrel somehow retracted his claws back into its tiny hands, in comparison to its size at least, it was still the size of a human head. Then opened its mouth and placed its small hands in it. A second later, it took out a nut the size of a human head.

Fares opened and closed his mouth like a fish in a pond. 'If it can hold something of that size in its mouth, I wonder what could it do to a normal human.'

Even if he was lost in his thoughts, the squirrel continued forward and placed the nut on the ground in front of Fares.

Fares understood what it wanted, but that he still didn't feel okay eating a huge not covered with a thick layer of mucous.

Still staring at him with its cute eyes wondering why he didn't eat the nut yet, the squirrel pushed it even more forward with its tiny hands.

Having no other choice, he better swallow his pride and take it rather than dying for such a cute creature. That would be embarrassing.

He bent down and grabbed the nut with both hands, thinking of something quick. He infused his energy into the sword alarming the squirrel, but he quickly used the sword to cut into the nut taking out its clean core and put it in his mouth.

After seeing this, the squirrel took another nut from its mouth and did the same as Fares but with its teeth instead. However, the nut shattered to dust shocking Fares greatly.
