Slateport Contest

A/N: This is Ashlyn's contest. I tried my best on this battle. So don't go too hard on me.

Today was the day of the Slateport Pokémon Contest. Luckily, Ashlyn and May were both registered for the contest before they started practicing for their performances. So now they were waiting room, waiting for it to begin.

At the Pokémon Stage, Vivian Meridian appeared on the stage with the three judges behind her.

"Ladies and gentlemen, thank you very much for your patience!" Vivian greeted, "The Hoenn Region Pokémon Contest and the pride of Slateport City will now begin!"

The crowd cheered in excitement.

"Now let's meet our judges, I'll begin by first introducing the director of the contest community, Contesta."

She gestured to Contesta as she introduced him. She walked over to the next judge.

"All of our judges are well known for fair but firm. Next we have Mr. Sukizo from the Pokémon Enthusiast Club."

She gestured to Mr. Sukizo who waved at the camera. Then she went to the last judge.

"And finally, Slateport City's very own Nurse Joy!"

Nurse Joy smiled at the camera. Then Vivian gestured to the picture of the Slateport ribbon above her.

"The coordinator who earns their way will be honored with the much-esteemed Slateport ribbon. Those of you skilled enough to earn five ribbons at the contests held throughout the region, you'll be allowed to compete in the ultimate test of all coordinators, the Pokémon Grand Festival!" Vivian announced, "My name's Vivian and I'm completely honored to be your MC today!"

The crowd cheered once more.

In the waiting room, the gang could easily say that May was nervously, extremely.

"May, are you alright?" Ashlyn called out which got May's attention.

"What?! What's wrong?!" May exclaimed in panic.

"You look a little nervous." Alain answered.

"No! No! No! I'm not nervous at all!" May denied frantically.

"Stay calm May," Ashlyn advised, "Your Beautifly is feeling nervous because you are, right Beautifly?"

Beautifly was out of her Pokéball and was feeling nervous.

"Really?" May asked.

Beautifly perched herself on May's head.

"Are you, Beautifly?" May looked up at her butterfly Pokémon.

"Beautifly. (Yeah.)" Beautifly replied.

"That's what Mr. Big was telling you about." Ashlyn reminded her.

"Raichu!" Tesla smiled.

"If a trainer feels nervous and the Pokémon will feel just the same." Alain stated.

"Remember, you and Beautifly worked really hard to get to this contest, May." Brock added, "Everything will be fine as long as you stay calm."

May smiled at that.

The coordinators did their performances. Drew already did his with his Roselia. Even though his performance was great, he was still arrogant in Ashlyn's eyes. Soon enough, Drew showed up at the waiting room.

"Yo!" Drew greeted May.

May looked up at Drew.

"I see you made it." He stated.

"Hello Drew." May greeted back.

"I trust that you caught our performance. That was some true art." Drew taunted.

"What do you want? Did you just come here to brag?" May demanded.

"No, as a great coordinator I came here to cheer you on. You see, I want you to at least make it through the preliminary round." Drew stated.

May got mad at that, "Well just watch me o' great one." She declared.

Then Robert with his Milotic showed up. The gang was quite impressed with his Milotic. However, Ashlyn could easily tell that May was getting more nervous about her performance.

Ashlyn walked over to May.

"Here, I have something for good luck." Ashlyn took out something from her pocket and put something on May's right wrist. May looked at it and saw it was a bracelet with a Beautifly charm on it.

"Wow, it's beautiful. Thank you, Ashlyn." May thanked her.

Ashlyn smiled, "May, all that matters is that you and Beautifly do your best and have fun out there." She advised.

May nodded, "Okay, I will." She promised.

"Beautifly!" Beautifly chirped.

Now it was Ashlyn's turn to perform, and May would be after her.

"Now here comes entry number 49! You all probably know her as the winner of the Rustboro City Contest, Ashlyn Ketchum!" Vivian announced.

The crowd cheered as Ashlyn arrived at the stage.

"Show time, Serenity!" Ashlyn released the Eon Pokémon.

"Latias!" Serenity the Latias appeared on the stage.

"Serenity, use Draco Meteor!" Serenity's body glows orange and an orange ball of light appears inside her chest. The glow fades and a ball of orange energy appears in front of her mouth. Then she fires the ball into the air, and it explodes, releasing many orbs.

"Amazing! A beautiful display of Latias's Dragon type attack!"

"Now Psychic!" Serenity's eyes glowed blue and the orbs were outlined as well. Then she moved the orbs around, creating loops in the air and she flew through them as she changed the directions.

"Wow! Would look at that! Latias is simply control those orbs and rearranging them however she wants as she flies around!" Vivian commented.

"Okay Serenity, now gather the orbs and use Aura Sphere!" Serenity gathered the orbs up above her. Then she puts her hands together and creates a blue ball of energy in between them and threw the ball at the gathered orbs. The impact causes the orbs to explode and create rainbow sparkles which rained down everywhere.

"What a beautiful display of power! Latias has captivated the crowd with her performance!" Vivian commented.

"Graceful and beautiful." Contesta commented.

"Remarkable!" Mr. Sukizo added.

"That display makes Latias look very powerful and playful at the same time." Nurse Joy added.

"Now let's see the judges' opinions." Vivian announced.

Contesta: 10

Suziko: 10

Nurse Joy: 10

Total: 30

"Wow! A perfect 30! A high score for today!" Vivian announced.

The crowd cheered for Ashlyn and Serenity as they bowed.

It was then May's turn. Ashlyn knew that she was extremely nervous. So she walked with her until she was called up. Ashlyn placed her hand on May's shoulder. May turned to Ashlyn.

"Remember May, do your best." Ashlyn advised.

"And have fun." May added.

Ashlyn nodded and then May smiled and headed towards the stage. She watched as May got nervous again, but then she got her confidence back as she and Beautifly worked together. Once their performance was done, May received the score of 24.9.

"That ends our preliminary competition. In a moment, we'll be announcing who will move onto the second round!" Vivian announced.

Ashlyn, May, Drew, Robert and a few other coordinators had made it to the second round. Drew was surprised that May had made it to the second round. Soon came the battle round. The coordinators were randomly chosen to battle one another. Ashlyn and Robert managed to beat their opponents. Drew and May were going against each other. Ashlyn knew that May would still have a difficult time battling Drew since she has little battling experience. Ashlyn managed to help her with that. But still...

Like Ashlyn had predicted, May had lost and lost badly. Everyone could see how torn up she was about her loss.

"I'm so sorry, May." Max apologized.

"You don't have to apologize, Max. It's obvious, I stink. I couldn't do a thing." May cried, "T-To think that my Beautifly work so hard out there. All I did was totally mess everything up." Tears fell down from May's eyes, "I feel awful!"

Ashlyn's eyes softened and she sat down next to May. She pulled May into a side hug. She gently rubbed May's back as she trembled.

"You wanna know a little secret, May?" Ashlyn asked, "When I was very little, Tesla and I couldn't beat Prof. Oak in a Pokémon Battle."

May gasped and turned to Ashlyn, "Really?"

Ashlyn nodded, "Yeah, Prof. Oak had more experience than I did. I had asked him how he was able to beat me so well. He told me, 'Experience. With every loss, I figured out my flaws and soon perfected them. So whenever I battled, I figured out how to use my opponents' flaws against them'. So when I finally turned eight, Tesla and I finally beat him." She admitted.

May stared at Ashlyn with admiration.

"So remember, May, this loss revealed that you just need more training and experience." Ashlyn stated, "And don't worry, we're all here to help you. Right guys?"

Everyone else nodded.

May smiled as she wiped the tears from her eyes, "Thanks you guys."

Everyone smiled at the cheered up May.

Drew and his Roselia had lost against Robert and his Milotic. So Ashlyn was going against Robert which made them the final two.

"So here we are, down to our final two contestants. Ashlyn and Robert!" Vivian announced.

The crowd cheered in excitement.

"Whoever wins will win the Slateport Ribbon!"

Then the screen above the stage showed Elena and Robert with their full points.

"Let the battle begin!"

5:00 to 4:59

"Go Serenity!" Serenity the Latias appeared on the stage.

"Milotic, let's go!" Milotic appeared on the stage.

"Serenity, use Dragon Breath!" Light blue waves of energy start swirling around Serenity. Then she fires a light blue beam of energy from her mouth at Milotic.

"Milotic, use Iron Tail!" Milotic's tail glowed a metallic color and swung its tail, deflecting Serenity's attack.

"Thunder Wave!" Serenity created a ball of yellow electricity in front of her hands and released rings of yellow electricity from it and threw it at Milotic who screamed in pain at the attack.

"Such a powerful electrical attack! It looks like Milotic took quite a hit!"

"Milotic, are you okay?" Robert called out.

Milotic nodded.

"Alright then, use Ice Beam!" A white ball forms in front of Milotic's mouth. It then releases multiple white beams with light blue outlines at Serenity.

"Double Team with Energy Ball!" Serenity created doubles of herself which the Ice Beam hit, and she puts her hands together and forms a green ball of energy in between them. Then she threw the balls at Milotic who cried out in pain once more.

"Milotic!" Robert cried out.

Milotic was panting as it continues to stand.

"With all those attacks, it's amazing that Milotic is still standing." Vivian commented.

"Milotic, use Twister!" An orb of wind appears in front of the end of Milotic's tail. A tornado is released from the orb and it throws it towards Serenity.

"Serenity, Tri Attack!" Serenity opened her mouth and forms an orb of yellow electric energy, light blue ice energy, and orange fire energy around its body. It then fires each orb at the Twister attack.

When the attacks collided, it caused an explosion of sparkles that rained down on the stage.

"What a collision! A beautiful display of powerful elements clashed against each other!"

But before Robert or Ashlyn could make another attack, the timer stopped.

"Time's up! Let's see who the winner is."

The screen showed Ashlyn and Serenity.

"And the winner is Ashlyn Ketchum!" Vivian announced.

The crowd cheered as Serenity and Ashlyn hugged. Then Ashlyn and Serenity bowed.

"And now, the Slateport Ribbon is presented to Ashlyn and her Latias which means that the Slateport Pokémon is officially over!" Vivian announced.

Contesta presented the Slateport Ribbon to Ashlyn who gently took it.

"Well done, Ashlyn. Another great performance." Contesta complimented.

"Serenity deserves the compliment, not me." Ashlyn denied.

Contesta chuckled, "Even so, you both did great. I hope to see you in the next contest."

"I'll be there." Ashlyn promised.

Serenity smiled.

And so, with her second ribbon on hand, Ashlyn and her friends now head out to Mauville City for Ashlyn's fourth gym badge.
