My Disastrous Life as Saiki Kusuo!

Somewhere in Tokyo, Japan

An 18-year old guy was sitting on a couch, comfortably watching his TV. The TV was playing some anime that the man watched in full concentration. It showed a pink-haired guy with weird antenna-like hair clips.

After the TV started playing the ending, the man turned it off using the remote. He sighed and just lay down on the couch. "This is the end of another good anime. I wish they could make a sequel to this series, but the manga already ended. Sigh… Good things never last long."

He sighed again and took out his phone. It was the Chumsung Note 8. He bought it after working many part-time jobs. Mobile phones were getting more and more expensive every year. It was the best phone at the time he bought it, but it wasn't anything special currently. The best phone on the market would be the Chumsung Note 11 and the Banana 12.

He unlocked his phone using his fingerprint and opened the 'webnovel' app. He touched the search option and a virtual keyboard appeared on the screen. He started typing 'Saiki' in the search bar and started the search. When the search was over, he went over to the fanfictions area by touching the 'Fan-Fic' area on the screen.

It only displayed a single item, 'DC World Reborn'. He was irate at seeing this.

"Who the f*ck wants to read 'DC' fanfiction? I want to read 'The disastrous life of Saiki K' fanfiction!" The man bellowed, angrily throwing away his phone. It soared rather pathetically toward the other end of the couch since he wasn't rich enough to buy another phone.

"Sigh… What a boring life. It's winter vacation and I have nothing to do, other than watching anime. Sometimes I wish I could get sent to an anime world like those fanfiction protagonists. Like that'll ever happen though." The guy mumbled while sporting a wry smile. He closed his eyes and started to relax.

When he was about to drift into sleep, his phone emitted a loud notification sound, waking him up. He approached his phone, held it in his palm, and unlocked it. There was a new email notification, but the thing that caught his attention was the subject. 'Are you bored with your life? Then download this app now!'.

"Is this a scam? Who the f*ck would send an email like this?" The man murmured, trying to exit the Gmail app, but he suddenly started to hesitate. He'd read a lot of fanfictions that started almost just like this, where a guy answers a spam email and gets sent to some fictional world. He shook his head after thinking of such a ridiculous thing.

"Well, it never hurts to just check it out. Maybe I'll really get sent into an anime world haha…" The guy laughed with a sarcastic but slightly hopeful tone. He opened the email and read it. It seemed to be an app invitation. He clicked the link and downloaded the .apk file. The download site was weird, filled with unrecognizable characters in the link.

"This site is weird. What the heck are those characters? Are they Russian or Chinese?" The guy pondered, but he didn't keep mulling over this and just opened the .apk file. He pressed 'Allow' for the 'Installation from Unknown Source' pop-up, and touched the install icon. The application's name was 'Fiction Connect'.

After a few seconds, the app successfully installed and automatically opened up. A prompt suddenly appeared on the screen, posing a question.

"This app will let you connect to a fictional world. Do you want to continue?"

The app displayed a 'Yes/No' answer box. He didn't think much and just pressed the 'Yes' icon.

Afterward, another prompt appeared, with a different question and the same answer box. It was a lengthy 'Terms and Conditions' pop-up, one that every application is required to show before allowing the user to access it. He didn't care much and just scrolled all the way down, pressing the 'Yes' icon.

Then another prompt appeared, asking yet another question. It looked just like those shitty surveys you had to do whenever you want to download some game hacks/cheats.

"If you are given a chance to start over as an anime character, which character would you choose?"

"I hope this app is at least somewhat useful. I don't want to exit it after downloading it." The guy mumbled. He started thinking about all the anime characters he would like to be. He remembered many cool characters, like an emotionless and overpowered 'Onii-san', a bored overpowered blonde-haired guy wearing headphones, a bald-headed overpowered hero for fun, and an overpowered pink-haired high schooler with weird antennas on the head.

After some thought, he ultimately decided on Saiki. It wasn't due to any specific reason. He'd already read a lot of fanfictions about people getting reincarnated as those people, but he hasn't read a single one with Saiki in it. He wanted to choose something different than all the other otaku fanfiction protagonists.

So he proceeded to type in 'Saiki Kusuo', and pressed 'Enter'. The app opened up another prompt, with yet another question, causing the man to feel quite irritated.

"Do you want to proceed with your new life? Please do note that the world you end up in won't be the same one you remember."

"Just get this over with already." The guy almost shouted in annoyance, smashing his thumb on the 'Yes' icon. Then, all of a sudden, he blacked out.

The last thing he remembered before falling unconscious was the app showing some kind of congratulation message.

"Congratulations! Your request has been reviewed and accepted. Please enjoy your new life! Your current life will end in approximately 10 seconds." The app displayed those words on the screen, but the man was unable to see them since he had been knocked unconscious. It then showed a countdown.

*BOOOOOOOM!*

The phone suddenly exploded, spreading out flames in all directions. Soon, the entire house caught fire and started burning rapidly. The neighbors were quick to notice it and call the firefighters, but they were too late. The man had already died, buried under the scorched rubble.
