Fitting in(chapter 39)

prevoius on chapter 38

"Hmm, interesting," Adam observed, taking in the sights and sounds of the bustling place. After a brief exploration, he quietly left, realizing the need to learn the language of this new world as soon as possible.

"Looks like I need to learn the language of these people as soon as possible," he sighed, withdrawing the dagger that had brought him here. Holding it in his hand, he contemplated his options.

"Hmm, I currently have two choices," Adam muttered, turning the dagger over in his palm. "The first option is to send this dagger into the pearl, keeping it safe from loss or theft. The downside is that unless I fully repair the pearl, I won't have access to it."

Turning the dagger to the side, he continued, "The second option is to keep it on my person, ensuring access to it at all times. However, there's the risk of it being stolen or pickpocketed, potentially trapping me here for a long time."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After a moment of contemplation, Adam made his decision. With a sigh, he carefully placed the dagger inside the pearl. "Well, it's better than risking it being stolen. Besides, while I'm working on fixing the pearl, I can explore this world, try out its technology, fight its monsters, or gather rare and powerful items."

Satisfied with his choice, Adam smiled to himself and stretched. "Well, new world, welcome Adam," he said to himself before setting off down the bustling streets, eager to embark on his adventures in this fantastical realm.

[ 2 months later ]

In the heart of a lush and green forest, a plume of smoke billowed from a section where several thuds and crashes echoed through the trees. The area was ablaze, with flames licking at the trunks of trees, some of which lay uprooted or broken. Amidst this destruction stood two figures: one, a massive black serpent measuring 30 feet long. Its obsidian scales glistened in the firelight, its mouth a furnace of orange glow. Small tendrils protruded from its hood, their purple tips dripping with a toxic green liquid. The other figure was a young man, Adam. His lush black hair brushed his shoulders, contrasting against his pale skin. Clad in black leather from head to toe, his muscular frame was evident beneath the supple material. At a height of 5 feet 10 inches, he looked remarkably young, perhaps around 16, going to 17. A scar traced from his neck down to his abdomen, a testament to battles past.

Surrounding Adam was a constellation of stars, each the size of his chest, glowing with a whitish-green hue. The star formations were his new spell, a versatile creation with multiple uses. The stars were arranged in a cross on top of a cross, rotated 45 degrees to form a star shape with sharp edges. Interconnected by a strong mana string, there were 25 stars in total.

Star-Formation(Tier: 1 ): Here is the corrected sentence:

A spell designed to conjure up a sharp star that can duplicate into 25 of itself, each duplicate being interconnected by a string of mana in a way that allows the formation to contract and expand, enabling the caster to manipulate their formations. Each star has the same durability as an iron shield, and the damaged stars regenerate 5% every minute thanks to the nature mana within. Lv:1 (98/100) cooldown: 10 minutes ]

Facing the serpent he dubbed the "Hell Serpent," Adam stood firm as it unleashed a torrent of flames from its gaping maw. Without flinching, he manipulated the star formations into a shield, seamlessly closing any gaps to withstand the onslaught. The heat began to intensify, causing the shield to glow, but it held. Yet, defense was not the only purpose of the star formations. Adam deftly transformed them into a chain, lashing out to cut the serpent repeatedly, preventing it from retaliating. With a precise strike, he severed the Hell Serpent's head, the creature collapsing with a final hiss.

"I still can't get over how versatile this spell is. Guess I really am a genius," Adam chuckled to himself, the adrenaline of battle still coursing through his veins. Moving closer to the fallen serpent, he began to defang it, expertly removing the four venomous fangs. Placing them in a brown leather pouch, a dimensional storage item "kindly" acquired from some "very friendly" gentlemen, he estimated their value.

"Four Hell Serpent fangs... should fetch a couple of gold coins," he mused, securing the pouch at his waist. The remainder of the serpent he stored in the pearl, a safekeeping device he had been using since his arrival in this world.

"Well, time to head back to Baldur's Gate," Adam sighed, recalling the city where his journey in this world began two months ago. Baldur's Gate was a port city, bustling with trade in sea products and merchants. Once a haven for pirates, the city's streets held tales of betrayal and intrigue. However, it was also a land of opportunity, allowing Adam to quickly learn the local language and find work as a monster hunter, his specialty. Most of his missions were commissioned by guilds, nobles, or the darker elements of the city, known as the black market. Over time, Adam had become a local of Baldur's Gate, thanks in part to the wooden mask's ability to render him invisible, granting him insight into the city's inner workings.

-scene change-

The moon was bright as it hung above Buldurs Gate, casting a silvery glow over the city's surfaces. Adam walked between buildings, the cobblestone streets quiet at this late hour. Finding a particular alleyway, he knocked on a small compartment. The person behind it flashed a small badge, then closed the compartment and opened the door to let Adam in. It led to what seemed like a bar, but he bypassed it, entering another door that led to a cellar where several figures were gathered. Among them was a humanoid boar at a reception desk. Adam handed over the fangs without a word. The man grunted, examining the fangs before tossing a couple of gold coins to Adam, who accepted them without a word. This silence was due to Adam's early days when he didn't know the language well, giving the residents here the impression he was either mute or simply preferred not to talk. Either way, it worked in Adam's favor, helping him avoid unnecessary trouble.

Author's note: Just a reminder that Adam is still a teenager and he won't be under 6 feet for long. I am short in real life; I can't have my main character be short (I am 5'12" by the way, and apparently that isn't 6 feet, darn it). Anyways, it's quite amazing to know that I am already an entire volume ahead and already starting the new volume.
