I Can

CHAPTER XIV: I Can

Days, weeks, months have already passed and we're all doing fine. Issues about me and Cameron have subsided already although I can still hear gossips about us. It's not a big deal to me but for Cameron, it is not. He would always say,

"Can't they just leave us alone?" or "can't they just let us live the life that we want?"

Especially the girls around the campus. They would throw dagger looks at me but when Cameron would turn around, they will take their eyes off of me then would smile at Cameron as if they haven't done something bad to me.

But then, boys will be boys. Even if I have Cameron by my side, they would cat call me or something. Well, I'm used to boys cat calling me but this one's different. They don't respect our relationship. My boyfriend is really pissed when someone did that. He nearly punched him and fortunately, I stopped him.

Remember the so-called Queen Bees? The ones who picked a fight with me? They are now expelled from this school. Of course, with the help of Aspen, those who are responsible will be held accountable. I'm slightly not happy with it because their followers continued their legacy. To continuously pissed me.

"A penny for your thoughts?"

I was startled when Saph suddenly spoke beside me. We are seated under a tree at the field. We are both having are free cut right now. I'd rather stay with her than the boys.

"You seemed spaced out? Do you have any problem?" she added.

"None. Just thinking of something." I smiled.

"Oh well, when you have a problem, I'm just here, okay? You can count on me." She chuckled.

"Yep. I know that. I remember, there's something I have to ask you." I held my chin.

"What is it?" she seemed interested.

These past few days, something really caught my attention. Well, aside from Cameron, of course. He's my boyfriend that's why.

"Something going on between you guys?" I asked.

"Who?" seems like she doesn't have an idea on who I am talking about.

So I scooted closer to her and whispered, "Damon."

Her eyes grew wide. I'm sure it's not because of embarrassment but out of irritation. I never met someone who gets irritated just by hearing the name of Damon. She is the first.

"What?" Saph shrieked. I laughed hard because of her reaction. It was priceless! I wish I could turn back time to capture the look on her face when I said Damon's name.

"Why would you think that?" she added.

"Well, these days, both of you really caught my attention." I smirked.

"And why is that?" she asked curiously.

"Because you are the first one to not acknowledge his handsomeness and you are the first one to not get affected by his charms!" I said.

"Yes, he's handsome. I just don't want to be vocal about it since he is too full of himself. I would not be surprised if in the future, he will marry himself." She hissed.

"Saph, he is not the Greek god Narcissus who fell in love with himself." I rolled my eyes playfully at her.

"But still, he's so full of himself and that makes him less handsome." She said as she lie down.

I asked her because I noticed the change in Damon. He changed a lot since then. I didn't bother to ask him why because I know he won't answer my question truthfully. So, I'm trying to catch Sapphire but based on how she reacts, I'm sure she don't know anything about it.

"He changed. A lot." I said without looking at her.

"Who?" I turned to her as soon as she said that. I can't believe she has no clue who I am still talking about. Saph is just so slow!

"Gosh Saph! There's only one person we're talking about and now you are asking me who?" I face palmed.

"Sorry." She made a peace sign.

We are interrupted when someone faked a cough. Saph hurriedly sat and I turned around to see who t was and to my surprise, it's Cameron.

"Excuse me, Sapphire. Mind if I steal my girlfriend from you?" he smirked.

"Oh, no. Not at all." She stood up then shakes the dirt out of her shirt.

"Well, 'til next time?" she asked then I just nod my head as a sign of agreement.. she waved her hand then walked away from us.

"What?" Cameron asked when I glared at him.

"Why do you have to interrupt our bonding time?" I hissed at him.

"Why are you suddenly grumpy about it?" he asked.

"Because it's supposed to be my bonding time with Saph." I glared at him.

"Oh well. Maybe next time then when you're not grumpy anymore. I wanted to treat you out today but you're grumpy so-" he just shrugged his shoulders.

My ears suddenly can hear better now. Did he just said 'treat'?

"I'm not grumpy. In fact, I'm happy. I'm in for the treat." I smiled sweetly at him.

"You're mood can suddenly change when we're talking about food huh?" Cameron chuckled.

I didn't mid him and just continued munching my food. I ordered a croissant, a red velvet cake, and a mocha frappe. I was supposed to order a lot of my favorite food since it's his treat but I don't want him to think that I'm taking him for granted.

"So how's your day" he started the conversation.

"Well, it's just the same. No changes." I sipped on my frappe.

"The same?" he asked.

"Yeah. The cat calling and some other stuff." I swear I saw his eyes glistened with anger as I said that.

"But it's okay. It's normal." I tried to lighten up his mood but he didn't bulge.

"It is not okay, Blaire." Oh no. He really is angry. He always calls me girlfriend or sweetheart on normal circumstances but he tends to call me by my name when he's serious.

"Chill. I can handle myself." I tried to reach his hand but he quickly avoided it. I felt a pinch in my heart.

"The authorities needed to act at this case. I'll tell them." He seriously said.

What? Does he think that I'm not strong enough to handle myself? Does he think that I need anyone to protect myself?

"I can handle myself. I can protect myself." I said in a low tone.

"You can't okay? You need me or your brother or anyone! Jesus, Blaire!" he brushed his hair.

Tears started streaming down my face.

"I can, okay? I'm strong enough. I'm not weak. I don't need any help. Excuse me." I stood up and walked towards the glass door to go home.

I was hoping that he would chase me, stop me. But he didn't.
